Hey,

Since 24H2 is a disaster I paused my updates "forever" (until 2034), but every time I boot up the PC I always check Windows Update status to make sure it's still paused.

Well, this morning it unpaused itself and was checking updates.

Immediately unplugged the ethernet cable and rebooted the PC, now it's paused again.

I'm not sure what Microsoft is trying to do here, I definitely did NOT click "resume updates".

So if you wish to stay on 23H2, make sure you check Windows Update every time or you might get an update done behind your back.

i've seen that video before,. it's just the reg edit tweak that is only a temp fix.

Yeah it's not the exact same one I did, but it's still a registry tweak.

Although it's true that I'd rather avoid using things like the program you posted, I'd rather do the edit manually myself.

Do you know what the program does exactly to completely disable Windows Update?

yes it disables the scheduled task that windows uses to check for updates.

you can manually disable it in task scheduler, however you will need to write another scheduled task to keep doing this every 24 hours. otherwise same with registry windows will override this and re enable it. the program automatically does this but of course you can do it manually if you wish.

Ok this one might be too complicated for me. I'll admit I never tweaked anything in that regard.

I paused the updates in December and it only now "unpaused" itself.

I put it in quotes because after rebooting the PC, my tweak was in effect again, without me having to do anything.

It shows 2034 as the pause date, correctly.

Still unsure as to what happened here, but I'm glad I was quick enough.

I don't have 23H2 on my USB stick, it's a 22H2 install, so I would have been SOL to reinstall it.

I'm not gonna download a Windows .iso file on a non official website lol. That's just asking for trouble.

I know the website is probably safe and everything, but yeah... Not gonna do that.

Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions, as well as Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions can use Group Policy Objects/Group Policy Editor though Pro versions are a little limited in the options they can use, Enterprise can use all of the features/options

Got myself W10 IoT LTSC, never bothering with random feature updates that cause freezes since I have 9800×3D. Now, especially Microsoft employees are majorly DEI members and stuck with them.
