Okay I will look it up!
If you aren't going for the 5700x3d or 5800x3d then you might as well just wait and save up and switch to AM5.
How much is it where you are? Because right now on Amazon that CPU costs about $150 total.
Hmm okay.
I can get a 5700X for $259 Canadian.
Do you think the upgrade would be worth it? I figured two more cores may be nice.
2 more core and higher boost clocks
6 cores is kinda limited with newer games
the stock cooler from teh 3600x should be fine on it
but you can get a better one if you need
your mobo is more than good enough for it
just update bios first
Make sure to update to latest bios before swapping out cpus
Would I need to do a fresh install of windows with this CPU upgrade?
Even going for AM5 makes more sense than the X3D if you have the money to spend on a motherboard and DDR5 because the 7600 is 280, 7600X is 320, and the performance they bring is similar to the 5700X3D but you get a newer platform with an actual upgrade path, and faster memory with long term support as well.
AM4 and DDR4 are over the hill and just about done with.
And it's best to buy as soon as possible because the incoming tariffs will cause everything to get more expensive, and Canada could be put into a pretty bad recession by mid-year.
Just the CPU? No. It should be as simple as swapping it out and turning it on. (Oh, and set up your BIOS settings again.)
You usually only need to do anything extra when you change the motherboard, especially if you use Linux since the bootloader on the previous motherboard doesn't carry over, for Windows you can often get away with using the same install on a different motherboard but there could be issues, and you would have to reactivate Windows
Decided on the 5700X. Will update BIOS tonight and install the CPU tomorrow
