3600X to 5700X
Would this be a good upgrade? My CPU does not meet the requirements for DOOM The Dark Ages so I want to upgrade. Not wanting to build a new computer yet.

Would there be any issues running this CPU on my Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite motherboard? And would the stock 3600X cooler be sufficient for the 5700X?

Thanks :pcbs_motherboard:

Okay I will look it up!
It is a little expensive for me at the moment. I should have mentioned I am considering the 5700X because I can get one for $160 off right now.

I don't think that is significant enough performance leap to be worthwhile.
If you aren't going for the 5700x3d or 5800x3d then you might as well just wait and save up and switch to AM5.

How much is it where you are? Because right now on Amazon that CPU costs about $150 total.

Hmm okay.

I can get a 5700X for $259 Canadian.

AMD RYZEN 7 5700X Without Cooler $248.98 cad

Do you think the upgrade would be worth it? I figured two more cores may be nice.

yea, its a much better cpu

2 more core and higher boost clocks

6 cores is kinda limited with newer games

the stock cooler from teh 3600x should be fine on it
but you can get a better one if you need

your mobo is more than good enough for it
just update bios first
It`s odd that 5700X3D is so expensive in Canada at the moment. You could try to order it from US. If not then 5800X is only 10 CAD more expensive then 5700X.
Just get a 5700X3D. One of the beat cpu for AM4. As you want this to be the last major upgrade for that as any newer cpu would require new motherboard and ram.

Make sure to update to latest bios before swapping out cpus

Really want the 5700X3D now.. Will hold off and see how pricing goes.

Would I need to do a fresh install of windows with this CPU upgrade?

Cheapest 5700X3D in Canada at the moment seems to be almost double the price of the 5700X, 240-250 vs 460. So it's just not worth it, makes more sense to get a 5700X because of the performance per dollar value is unfortunately higher than the X3D variant in Canada.

Even going for AM5 makes more sense than the X3D if you have the money to spend on a motherboard and DDR5 because the 7600 is 280, 7600X is 320, and the performance they bring is similar to the 5700X3D but you get a newer platform with an actual upgrade path, and faster memory with long term support as well.

AM4 and DDR4 are over the hill and just about done with.

And it's best to buy as soon as possible because the incoming tariffs will cause everything to get more expensive, and Canada could be put into a pretty bad recession by mid-year.

Just the CPU? No. It should be as simple as swapping it out and turning it on. (Oh, and set up your BIOS settings again.)

Yeah you don't need to do anything when you change CPU other than set up your BIOS settings again, you don't need to reinstall Windows or anything like that

You usually only need to do anything extra when you change the motherboard, especially if you use Linux since the bootloader on the previous motherboard doesn't carry over, for Windows you can often get away with using the same install on a different motherboard but there could be issues, and you would have to reactivate Windows

Decided on the 5700X. Will update BIOS tonight and install the CPU tomorrow
Can I still upgrade to Windows 11 for free?
