Why would US tariffs impact you in the EU?
google it.
even though i think his threats are a load of BS and are just an attempt to bully other countries for some reason. he is crazy enough to do it.
If you're worried about a trade war, buy everything you need now. I bought a $3000 PC over Christmas so that I don't have upgrade anything for the next few years.
i hope none if actually goes through
but hey, he wants the price of eggs to go down
What happens in the USA will affect prices in the EU one way or another.
Imagine somebody decides to hit Americans with high tariffs, so they will buy significantly less. That would reduce demand and prices in the EU might drop. The effect would not be long probably, because the same time export from the EU to USA would also drop and possibly the value of EURO. If Chinese manufacturers set prices in USD, the price in EUR would raise again
Anyway, these are only speculations. Nobody knows what's going to happen.
canada, mexico and EU have already stated that if the US hits them with tariffs they will do the exact same and everything in all countries affected will go up.
if everyone is hit with a 25% import tariff prices go up.
also even if only the US imposes these tariffs on said countries and the others don't retaliate for some reason, that lowers demand. Lowering the dollar of the other countries. making their buying power less and prices will go up. so i mean ether way it's a loose loose for literally everyone in the short term and maybe even long term as the US is just burning bridges at this point. . . anyways enough with the politics i guess
i do agree with you on that if you want something and can afford it, buy it now
tariffs are intended to equalize prices for goods from other countries,
not as a punishment
if there is no competing product the demand remains, just its price goes up
only the country that imposes the tariff pays for it
not really what i said, i just said that tariffs lower the demand of goods from other countries because the country that applies it has less incentive to buy them due to the price hike.
It also causes the dollar of the country exporting less to have it's dollar lowered.
demand would be the same
Yes and no. ;-) The reality is, there are not so many things produced in the USA that people in the EU would like to buy*. The biggest part of import is oil and gas. There will be no tariffs on that. The EU needs that anyway and Trump wants to sell even more of it. If that is his goal, they will easily come to agreement. The EU will respond, but probably not with tariffs. France wanted to put taxes (EU wide) on big american corpos (Microsoft, Amazon, Google). They didn't get enough support before, but times changes...
* fun fact about cars: most cars from the USA are "not suitable" for European roads (mildly speaking ;-) ) Except for Tesla, which was selling good... but Musk apparently didn't like it. Their sales in the EU is not dropping, it is plummeting! If Musk asked the CEO of Stellantis (Peugeot, Citroen...) for a bottle of French Champagne, he would get the container full of it, with dedication "for the best sales person of the year".
