5 year old pc upgrade?
Would it be worth it to upgrade parts or just get a whole new computer? It's around 5 years old.

Do you want us to guess what parts you have and want to upgrade? Is that how this works nowadays?

Just use your brain for 1 minute and realize that it depends on what you currently have and which parts you would like to upgrade in particular.

specs?

if it does everything fine, keep it as is

or if better gpu would help do that and maybe psu

or if it needs a better cpu, then go for new cpu/mobo/ram kit

That is still a pretty good PC IMO. Is it not performing up to your expectations?

i would like to upgrade to the new 50 series but not sure if its worth the investment or would it be better to just get a new pc.
A new video card would be fine. I wouldn't go and put something an RTX 5080 or 5090 with your current CPU, and even the RTX 5070/Ti may be somewhat held back by it, but it will still be a massive improvement over the RTX 3070 and that's what matters.

As for your CPU, your current one is decent, but aging, and I'd say "fair" overall. It's a case of "it might be fine, it might not be" and it depends on if you're happy with the level of performance you're getting. If not, the platform (motherboard/socket) that you are using does have much faster CPUs available for it, so an upgrade is worthwhile if you do want more CPU performance.

I had a 3700X and upgraded it to a 5800X3D, but the 5800X3D is sort of irrelevant on the buying market now as it went end of life (and price went way higher than it's worth). The slightly slower but much better value 5700X3D replaced it so the same option more or less remains. If you want hard information instead of just my word...

You can see how your current 3700X compares to the 5700X3D.

So if you're happy with the 3700X, it's still fine. If not, you have a lot of improvement you can make for less cost than completely starting over.

If you can find a 5600X3D, 5700X3D or 5800X3D for a good price then yeah it'd be worth upgrading to one of those with a 5070 or 5070Ti

If you have a micocenter near you

https://www.microcenter.com/product/676051/amd-ryzen-7-5700x3d-vermeer-am4-30ghz-8-core-boxed-processor-heatsink-not-included

They have the 5700X3D on sale for $200 which would be worthwhile

What about the 9800?

You'd need to upgrade your motherboard and memory for that. E.g. you'd basically be building a whole new rig

Opinion?
9800x3d is am5, will need new mobo and ddr5 ram

the a12 9800 is am4 and a fx based cpu, a huge downgrade from your current cpu

or intel i7 9800x is old, socket 2066, from 2018 nowhere near the 5700x3d performance
microcenter prebuilds are often store specific, they build based on parts available

Thank you. This is so confusing to me.
be sure to select store location that you will pick it up from

if that is available to you, the 8700x3d and 4070s is a good combo
