SteamOS - PC
Will SteamOS ever be released for PC?

More specifically, a PC with an NVidia module?

Yes eventually.

Also you don't even need to wait for that, you can already install bazzite which has nvidia support and is basically SteamOS with more up to date drivers anyways.

I wonder if this operating system supports my double monitor setup...

The secondary monitor being 60 Hz and the primary 120 Hz; both G-sync monitors.

System Specifications (Desktop)[www.canva.com]

I will have to take a look, after my shift ends.

Pop!_OS...
https://pop.system76.com/

it has the nvidia driver inside. just click on the download button and you can see a version with nvidia driver included. download and install this. a problem is, that it updates the os frequently i think as soon as possible and i dont know if i even understand your question mr thradstarter. so: use pop os and play games with nvidia gfx board. enjoy!

Why are people even asking this?

It's like asking "Will I ever grow a brain"

When it comes out you can bet Valve will advertise the heck out of it on Social Media.

SteamOS just Linux which you can easily go install and then put Steam on there. Why is this hard?
SteamOS's general release is currently being delayed while Nvidia drivers are worked on to bring them up to snuff.

An OS is not a GUI and I'm tired of hearing people tout such things.

No Bazzite which is a Fedora based OS is NOT "basically" SteamOS an Arch based distro.

Its a good alternitive but they aren't the same.

This^. They love spamming their OnDeck and Steam Twitter accounts with the news about anything related to the Deck and SteamOS. A few dev accounts do as well.

Valve will also make an official announcement on Steam in the Steam news bullhorn next to your notifications bell icon, screaming from the top of their lungs hoping people will read it.

:nkCool:
I want Steam OS so much. I really hate Windows and the Microsoft Corporation.

a lot of users in here really hate microsoft. do they use windows or not? i think that windows is just an operating system like linux und apple iOs. in my case i see no problem. i want to make my apps run.
what do you say? why use software one hates? this is just a question. i am using linux and windows, which i prefer.
thank you for reading my comment.

It is a fact that it's a steam OS alternative and is widely used as such.

You just suck at reading between the lines and for some reason feel outraged. Why?

And again, SteamOS is just Linux. You can just get Linux such as Pop!_OS or MINT and go from there with putting Steam on it ans enable Proton and Steam Play

not everybody knows everything about linux/pc's and other it-stuff. so a steam os isnt obsolete in my opinion.
thx.

Maybe
Well, they mention Nvidia in the patch notes, but how many people read the rest of the sentence? Wow, it's actually about Steam Link fixes.

Otherwise the new handhelds powered with SteamOS is interesting.

He wasn't saying it was obsolete, he was saying that it's not actually going to be really any different from any other version of Linux that's prepackaged for gaming machines. There's tons of good options; Nobara, Garuda, Pop!_OS, Bazzite, ChimeraOS, and many, many, many others.

Bazzite was one of the first distros that was made specifically to bring a Steam Deck-like experience to other devices including desktops and laptops and it's done a very good job at doing just that. Already works with NVIDIA GPUs, whereas Valve is facing hurdles with NVIDIA drivers and modules which might be delaying the desktop release of SteamOS.

There's nothing that SteamOS is going to do for desktop machines that options like Bazzite have done, everything that Valve has done has already been applied to other distributions because their contributions are open-source; Gamescope being the biggest thing that SteamOS introduced is already widely available, as an example.
