Yes reality still stands: All computer processors that exist today will hamper the performance of the RTX 5090. With each new processor released the RTX 5090's performance will increase when paired with newer, faster processors.
Anyways, I'd match it with 9950X3D if you can wait till March. I can't go back to fewer cores after already using a 16 core, but that's just me.
It's kinda hard to break $10K on a consumer level desktop unless you go full custom water cooling. Pain in the ass when upgrading though, so I tend to stick with AIO.
If its purely for gaming, like all previous versions, it's likely slower than the 9800x3d unless you disable the slower non 3d v cache chips, sadly.
Very noisy unfortunately.
Not that I've looked into it several times....
-> I have no idea which one as none is for sale here yet so can't give spec comparising yet.
-> the ONLY real 4k monitor.. to not have pixels to dense you want at least 44 inch, which this has with 48 inch.. it also has all the other niceties 16:9 (widescreen sucks), 4k, 120 hz (in fact it has 138hz) gsync, freesync, it is a very nice OLED panel for beatifull colours, and ofcourse it has a responcetime of less than 1ms (0.1 ms actually)
it is the ONLY monitor anybody that wants to game at 4k should consider there is just no other like it.
-> the 9950x3d is still 2 months away from launching, so again I can only give advise in what is the best right now.
still if the earlier 7000 series is looked at the 7950x3d did not perform better in games but about equal (often just 1-2% behind) it did ofcourse perform better in other tasks not gaming related.
however the 7950x3d still did get x3d casce on ALL cores.. the 9950x3d will only get it for HALVE it's cores.. with games most likely not able to properly pick which ones they will use.. meaning the risk it is actually SLOWER in games than the 9800x3d is quite high. so I see no reason to wait for it.
just the best motherboard there is.
-alc 1220 soundchip (a must have on any board)
-wifi 7 (also very nice to have)
-TWO gen 5 pcie x16 slots
-TWO gen 5 pcie x4 m.2 slots
there is another board of 650 euro some prefer over this one.
it has 1 x16 slot less and a third gen 5 pcie x4 slot (which I see the merit of)
but it also has a lesser audiochip and wifi which I prefer to have over a third m.2 slot.
while it is possible than this motherboard + cpu would run ram faster than 6000mhz.. it is unclear and without testing you would never know.. I personally would not risk it.
well now if you go for a beast.. you want than the biggest sticks you can find.
and these 3x48gb sticks with a true latency of 10ms and 6000mhz are perfect.
G.Skill Ripjaws M5 Neo RGB F5-6000J2836F48GX2-RM5NRW
would be slightly faster (also 2x48gb but slighly lower cl ratings.. bringing the true latency down to 9.33ms
-
but I have NO idea when they will finally be released.. they have been anounched back in august 2024 and a few stores list them as "coming soon" since than.. yet they are still not for sale nor have a listed price.
hence why I stick to the corsair variant.
-if you are one that care more about speed than amount of ram
Corsair Vengeance RGB CMH32GX5M2B6000Z28 (2x16gb) already has that true latency of 9.33ms
***and once again G-skill promises a lot but does not deliver fast.
G.Skill Trident Z5 Royal Neo F5-6000J2636G32GX2-TR5NS
64gb (2x32gb) has a true latency of 8.57,ms
but like the earlier model.. announced.. nowhere for sale yet not any idea when that is going to happen.
600 euro for a 4tb m.2 is VERY steep.. but you wanted the best.
but do you need 2.. if not.. it adds no performance for your user case..
I have to say at 14100mb/s this IS the fasted 4tb m.2 out there.
but the Corsair T705 2TB has a read speed of 14500mb/s and is 350 euro..
so you maybe could use two of those to get even more speed (even if it cuts your storage capacity down from 8 to 4.. (ofcourse the downside than is both your fastest gen 5 slots are imediatly filled without 8tb or an empty slot for future updates to show for it)
**I also noticed the model with heatsink tends to be 100 euro cheaper.. you could just get that and screw the heatsink off of it.. as you not need it if thats the case in your region too.
personally I think sacrificing 400mb/s to keep 1 slot free or get 8tb instead of 4tb is worth it to pick the second fasted model on the market.
well now.. this is shear opulence.. 2x8tb or SIXTEEEN TB of m.2 storage.
sure it is only gen 4 but it's still 7200mb/s (ok ok thats only halve the 14100/14500 of the gen 5 disks above... but thats only because those are so great too!
-I doubt you EVER be able to completely fill 16 freaking tb of fast storage.
again just buying 1 of these is a fine way to cut cost.
or if you think the 4/8tb of the faster gen 5 is plenty for now.. you can leave them both out and save yourself a sizable chunk of your budget.
-- these second tier will load games slower than your above gen 5 disks.. and basicly is only "to use use if the above is full for software you use less often" and not care the extra second of load time.
if you want speed, not size..
Transcend 750S 4TB is the fastest gen 4 m.2 with 7500mb/s (but you only get 4tb)
howver it's durability is scetchy..
the samsung 990 Pro 4tb is the second fastest with 7450mb/s (also 4TB) and it has one of the best durabilities of all disks (and twice the cache of the trancend.. making it in many user cases just as fast or faster.. it also has a higher write spreed.
-> in realistic mode if you go with two 4tb disks of gen 5.. 8tb most likely be plenty for everything. and you won't need any of this extra storage..
**
if you however go only for one of them (especially if you opt for the faster 2tb model) having a sizable 8tb disk for your game library and the faster disk for boot.. makes sence.
But you if want absolute bragging rights... this is it.
this is clear insanity.. if you already have 9tb of storage at 14100mb/s AND 16tb storage at 7100mb/s why would you need ANOTHER 52tb storage at 540mb/s
-it adds ZERO gaming performance.. and what you going to use that much storage for.. downloading every movie ever made of piratebay? making a personalised backup of a video website banned in your nation? still you asked for the best and well this is it.
the largest possible drive you can buy and connect to the sata-600 connectors your motherboard has.
(it has 4.. I used one for the cardreader and one for the blue ray rw.. if you not want either of those you could even add a third or forth hd to make your storage capacity even more bonkers)
i most realisticly situations you would just not do this and save yourself this 1300 euro)
you want a fully modulair psu.. you also want it to be of the latest standard, you also want it to have enough volt to power the insanity of hardware you got + leave room should you go even more bonkers (you still have that 2d pcie slot.. after all)
it has enough 12 pin connectors of the latest generation to connect TWO 5090 should that be what you want.
it is also of the highest efficiency standard.
a case is a personal taste.. so feel free to change this.. however few cases still have harddrive cages OR space for optical drives let alone both..
this one is one of the few that has and still looks very nice.. and also has the frontend connections you want.
I still see merit in having a blue ray player.. sure you may not be using game disks in it... but no streaming service offers the same quality as blue ray.. and with cancel culture altering books and movies to "make them suitable to the sensibilities of today" it never has been more prudent to own fysical media anyway.
and a 48 inch monitor is also a very nice screen to watch movies on..
-
also the ability to burn away some data for a personal backup still is nice I tend not to hand out free usb sticks.. but burning a dvrom if somebody asks for data is still something I do... the size of a dvd 4.7 is also great to make a periodic harddisk copy on.. so that you can just copy all files from dvd.. (which in case of a virus can't be infected too in connected to the system unlike an external usb or harddrive)
**it's personal preference I just like to still have one.
as for the cardreader.. thats again a personal preference.. I make a lot of photo's and while sure one can connect most modern camera's with a cable to the usb port.. that means I have to grab that cable all the time.. + that connection is rather slow (the camera itself can only send the data so fast) taking out the datacard and sticking it in my pc is a MUCH faster data transfer.
I get it if you want to scrap these two.. (especially as that will allow more chooce in cases)
a very good keyboard and mouse it's what I use myself and I like them.
but there are other options out there.. including the ability of custom keys (even full modifications making the keyboard all wood) some you may like the look of more.
and for mouses.. what I find nice in my hand may not be what you like in your hand.
so consider this a good baseline.. but I'd way walk in a store and touch the different keyboards to find out what kind of switches and mouseshape works best for you..
the best aircooler for the cpu choosen.
and very nice looking and high performing casefans filling all slots for fans of the case I picked.
-> the best aircooler outperform aio coolers.. so unless you want to go full custom loop watercooling (which logically adds more costs) I see no point in picking that over just good old reliable aircooling. (especially since aio solutions are more prone to breaking down too.
***if you want to go custom waterloop.. I certainly can advise on parts there too after you confirmed you pick this case or pick another.. know that from personal experience while a custom waterloop DOES make things run cooler than aio/aircooled.. it also has a far higher tendency to break down (every pump in the loop breaks down on me in 1.5 years orso) while fans/aircooled basicly NEVER EVER broke on me not even in 20 or 30 years.
-and as you claim not much experience.. and most likely have somebody else build your system.. most stores flat out refuse rma's on pc's with custom waterloop and those that do charge an arme and a leg. as replacing even a small non watercooled part will mean dismanteling the whole waterloop.. they just won't do it.
this is not where I can advise you well.. a decent quality 2+1 set is what I use myself
liked to my 1980s stereo set.. as even that old regulair speakers.. outperform any pc speaker in sound. so the best advise I can give you there is get regulair speakers not pc speakers and find a way to link them to your pc.
-I NOT use headphones so can't advise you there either.
as for chair I have two secretlab titans I got for 400 euro each I like.
but I'm sure theres even better out there like some office chairs at places i worked sat divine.. (but the likely cost 2000 euro a piece at least)
The pc you buy will not be a beast, nor will it be unstoppable, despite having an astral OC. You will not get an extra frame more from it than from the most basic 5090.
someone has never done any OC it seems
while prebuilds suck i fully agree..
the noob can just go with a partslist to a local store and have them build it.
you usually pay 100-200 extra cause they may not be the cheapest offer for each part + your pay usually 50 orso in assemblage fee..
its a acceptable solution for those who not yet wish to go tinker themselves.
in which case..
welll opinions differ:)
specswise it is the best board out there and i looked and see no negative reviews in my region.
the only thing i find scetchy is going for the asus brand at all.. i have had plenty 600-900 euro asus motherboards break cause 1 stupod 6 euro transistor gave out needed expensive rma procedures. (they always honoured them but the shipping to them you always can pay) . asus these days has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ quality control which leads to an uneasy amount of rma (about 15% of asus mobo breaks in under 3 years these days)
The ASUS ROG Astral OC is the top-tier GPU, so it should be paired with an AMD Ryzen 9800X3D. HOWEVER, on March 12th, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D will be available. I say it's worth the wait.
For that, you'll need an AM5 socket and specifically an X870 chipset motherboard (not X870E the less hardware, the better for performance). Keep in mind that these CPUs are limited to 24 PCIe lanes and are dual-memory channel only (no quad). So the ideal setup is to allocate 16 lanes to your PCIe slot for the GPU and the remaining 8 lanes to two Gen 5 M.2 drives in RAID 0.
There are very few motherboards that allow this. Your best options are the MSI MAG Godlike or the msi mag Tomahawk, most other boards share GPU lanes for extra M.2 slots, converting you 5090 pcie x16 port into an x8 for extra gen 5 or gen 4 m2 slots, that is a huge MISTAKE. Howver most people doesnt investigate the motherboard arquitecture and lane distributions and only follows what is writen is the specs. BIG MISTAKE.
Based on 3DMark tests, several Tomahawks are in the top 10 performance list.
Memory (RAM):
Since your CPU is dual-channel, you only want to occupy two slots. And you’re just in luck, a few weeks ago, G.Skill released their new 6000MHz CL26 memory sticks. These are undisputed in performance. For optimal performance and perfect clock parity 1:1:1, AMD’s Ryzen CPUs typically have an Infinity Fabric Clock (FCLK) sweet spot of around 2000MHz.,UCLK = 3000MHz, and MCLK = 3000MHz.it keeps the Infinity Fabric, memory, and CPU controller all working in harmony at the most efficient speed
Additionally, CL26 (CAS Latency 26) is currently the lowest latency available at this speed, meaning faster data access compared to CL30 or CL32 modules. This makes 6000MHz CL26 the god for AMD.
Storage (M.2 SSDs):
The best option is the Samsung PM9E1 at 14.5GB/s, but data centers have already overbooked these. So, your best alternative is the Crucial T705 at 14.2GB/s. And remember, since you’ve got the Tomahawk, you can set up RAID 0 to double the Gen 5 speed.
To get 2 full Gen 5 in x4 lanes, you'll need to disable both USB-C 40Gbps for the second one. But honestly? Send them to hell.
Cooling & Power Supply:
I'm assuming you're going custom liquid cooling, make sure you use independent reservoirs, im not going to go into specific on how the environment should be air cooled....hopwever there is science behind it and many factors can make your pc 5 degrees cooler, but make it right. As for the PSU, since you’re pairing this build with a 5090, I highly recommend getting a Titanium 80+ ATX 3.1 Gen 5.1 PSU with GaN MOSFETs.
If you’re into ROG gear, the ROG Thor Titanium III fits your needs perfectly and ensures your 5090 doesn’t burn out your PCIe slot or its power conection.
