Type A wants to skip this generation because of [INSERT REASON HERE]
(most of the time it's a money issue)
Type B already sells his GPU/CPU in orde to be able to to buy the next series, although he's never gonna get one at MSRP
Type C is going to buy a pre-gen model because prices are falling with the new gen release
Type D just sits back and enjoys the comments
Which type are you? ^^
So Type B, but more generous? ^^
GL getting one for MSRP. Its a gamble. Possible, sure, but not very likely. I guess it also depends where you live.
Friends and family in the US, Canada, Germany & France tend to be more lucky with hardware at MSRP, but its very unlikely to happen where I live.
The current new market just sucks really badly.
Type E ?
Will buy a 5080, but keep my 4080 and 3090 as shelf decorations (or backups, i suppose). I never sell my old hardware.
Thats some pretty expensive shelf decoration you got yourself there. ^^
Im someone who tends to upgrade their GPU every generation as well but the thought of using them as decoration instead of selling them, never entered my mind. I guess it would bother me to lose the opportunity to get as much money out of my old hardware as possible.
But I mean as long as you can afford it, why not.
I have a few old worthless ones but I think at least 1 of mine is worth something, and when I upgrade next I will sell what I currently have probably.
Local sale like Craigslist, or etc... Be careful where meet up best to meet in populated area where cameras are as never know whom you meet.
Or sell online like eBay, make sure to record, and document when packaging, and dropping it off so buyer can't lie, it's unlike to happen, but better to be safe than sorry.
A good way? I guess good ol' eBay.
It depends which GPUs were talking about. Something like a Vodoo 3dfx could be worth at least 150 to 200 bucks, depending on the model. Not every old GPU is a collectors item.
The only GPU Ive kept is a Sapphire 290X Tri-X. That old thing isnt even worth 50 bucks anymore but its still special to me because of nostalgic reasons.
Most of the hardware I have is old enough to be useless and irrelevant but not old enough to be valuable.
Wish I saved more of my hardware decades ago. I feel like there is a far bigger difference between 2000 hardware and 2010 hardware than there was between 2010 hardware and 2025 hardware.
Though, fwiw, I'm not sure if my current GPU will be worth selling when I do decide to upgrade and sell.
Sticking with my 300 watt 4080 Super.
Type C, It has worked fine for me so far,
