The Nvidia app is stupid
All people want to do is update their drivers/change resolution / add a custom resolution / change some of the graphics card settings...

we don't need tile format UI to do that

The control panel could just have an option to update drivers on the bottom left corner....

I agree with all of Illusion's points. Besides, it makes sense that everything is under many menus as this is supposed to be a super app that combines the two old apps. Having a singular is interface is better for both end users and NVIDIA's image as a brand.

Like it or not, the average user whose only purpose of owning a dedicated computer is to play games doesn't enjoy having two separate apps that are bad as hell which taints NVIDIA's image in front of those users.

I don't think it's that bad for power users. If one pays enough visit to the control panel to the point of complaining about stacked menus, an ability to create a desktop shortcut that takes the user straight to the control panel (or whatever they desire) would be much appreciated.

But why waste money plus resources designing another control panel when you already have one..... Just add a simple update drivers option on the old control panel.

I haven't used the nVidia App, so I can't comment on execution, but the concept was absolutely needed.

When I changed to AMD and tried Adrenalin, it showed me everything that was wrong with nVidia's driver ecosystem. Adrenalin is basically what the control panel and GeForce Experience get you, and while there is an account feature, it's not mandatory. Maybe I'm alone here, but I don't have any problems with Adrenalin. Like, yeah, Red isn't my favorite, but that's Radeon's color and it's not a big deal to me. nVidia is Black and Green so it's the same deal with a different color and logo. The only minor annoyance I could mention is that the option to access it in the right click context menu doesn't only show up when right-clicking on the desktop like nVidia, but it also shows up in explorer folders. I imagine there's possibly a Regedit workaround but it's so minor of a thing that it hasn't bothered me enough to even look it up to change it.

The nVidia control panel was very sluggish, lacked features (namely, recording, metric monitoring, fan control and overclocking, etc.), and looked outdated. The fact that you had to compliment it with GeForce Experience, RTSS + Afterburner, OBS, Riva Turner, etc., etc. is proof enough of how lacking it was.

I absolutely agree that OS and software UI in the last decade is leaving much to be desired. Unfortunately, ever since mobiles became internet capable and more common, the internet and much software has started to adopt UI and layout that is tailored towards that as the lowest common denominator. I don't like it either... but the control panel had the same issue in the opposite direction. It was something that literally had Windows XP's oft-called "Fisher price" look. That paired with it's lack of performance and lack of features, it needed changed.
They could simply add those options as text in the control panel...

It's cheaper to maintain one app than two apps that are very different. Also the old control sucks so this is just hitting two birds with a stone.

The reasons were given; the existing one is simply lacking in many ways. By time you "change the control panel" enough to address all those things, you basically would have a new application.

The control panel lacks a plethora of features (this isn't just "driver updates" but things like recording, metric monitoring, fan speed control, overclocking, and more, and you can't say people don't want these features when everyone is complimenting the control panel with RTSS + Afterburner, OBS, etc. for those very things), it lacks performance (pauses when applying things, pauses when changing tabs, etc.), and is using a very outdated in design (literal Windows XP buttons in 2025, and while I didn't mind Windows XP... it doesn't fit in with 2025 and has all those other issues).

When some things are old or different enough, it actually becomes cheaper/easier to redo it. This may be one such case. As said above, this is probably less time and resources since it's unifying things, or at the least, it's worthwhile time and resources since it's making their software more capable (at least compared to the control panel alone). The control panel is so feature deficient it straight up can't make use of certain hardware features! You think nVidia likes their hardware offerings being limited by their own software?

nVidia actually tried what AMD did with Adrenalin long ago, but they dropped the ball with GeForce Experience because it needed an account and had plenty of issues, so many nVidia users rejected it (the people distrusting nVidia software while claiming nVidia is better here seem tone deaf to me). The nVidia App is another, and hopefully proper, go at the the problem. I don't expect it will be perfect, but nor is the control panel by a long shot.
