That was actually good, kinda. I bought a new power supply for ~£10, easy fix. You have no idea how many people throw out perfectly good monitors just because their power supplies fail and they don't realise they can replace it.
since it has a power light that works, its not the power supply tho
no mfg logo or osd menu means it has no backlight
if you have a very bright flashlight put it directly to the display, look for a partial image around the light
Not necessarily true as the power LED is on a separate voltage it could be working but the PSU is failed; however, this does sound like the backlight failed and/or the PSU failed. For example my old Panasonic plasma TV had it's PSU fail but the power LED would still illuminate because it was on a low 3v rail that was still working but the rest of the PSU was dead. It would depend upon how the PSU is designed.
The other direction would be more sound of an argument. E.g. if the power LED won't turn on at all then there is a high likelihood that the PSU is dead. But just because the power LED will turn on doesn't wholly rule out that there is a failure with the PSU.
Testing with a flashlight to see if you can see the image would be a good first step to see if it is just the backlight.
OP if you aren't risk adverse and are somewhat technically competent you can get a replacement PSU and display board for that monitor for around $25-$30 if it turns out to be the power supply. E.g. if you don't see any image on the pane using another light source to rule out if the issue is the backlight.
if the led turns on and off to the power button, then the power board/brick is ok
I do think it sounds more likely to be a backlight issue, but the power LED turning on and off doesn't rule out that the internal PSU could have a fault and is not supplying power to the backlight.
