The algorithm and "user engagement" are the neon god they made. You can block youtube from setting any cookies, and use blocktube to hide more egregious unwanted channels from search results, and even dig into uBlock Origin and uMatrix's advanced expressions to block certain CSS elements like the "people are also watching" box in the search results feeds.
I hate these predictive algorithms, both on Youtube and stores like Amazon. They are annoyingly inaccurate and mostly seem to suggest what you have already watched or bought. Amazon keep annoying me with Dried Mango. I can't for the life of me think why they think I would like to buy some of that. They also seem to think I own a company (which I don't) and play a guitar (which I don't) and go diving (which I don't) and wear giant oversized jumpers (which I don't) and want inkjet refills (I don't have an inkjet printer).
I did actually phone Amazon and ask them to stop it, they said that many customers complain of the same thing, but Amazon won't stop it.
"You may like"
I dislike both and don't care.
Just subscribe to the channels you like and watch videos from the subscription section?

Once you sub to channels your main feed is almost entirely things from those channels
