Switch to Windows 11 or nah?
Hello i have a question :) i have an old pc. It says Windows 11 cannot be installed on the hardware because its to old. Amd FX 8350 / gtx 960 / 16GB Ram (mainboard gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 NO UEFI). There are some ways people can install windows 11, no matter what windows 10 say. Im asking me should i do it or not? Will i get lags and unstable because of old hardware? or can i go for it. in october i guess windows 10 support ends and idk, i feel myself better with a windwos which get updates. What do u think? i only play rainbow six, valorant, apex legends on this pc. other games only with cloud gaming so im fine with it.

Since you play Valorant then it's automatically stay with 10. as the moment you will upgrade to 11 on an unsupported system.
The game will expect to see TPM2, Secure Boot and HVCI enabled.

Stay on 10 until EOL
Windows 11 is unpredictable.

Preferable reply right there.

Definitely stay with 10, by the time it's EOL for things like Steam maybe a better version will be out, or a better linux.

I made the switch for free before Microsoft closes that door. they tried twice. windows 11 isn't that bad. Once its set up

Anything okder from AMD then Ryzen, no stay on Win10. It's good until Jan 2028 for Home and Pro.

If you really wanted to put Win11 on an AM2/AM3/FM2 based machine, you'd have to do a clean install, which you would want to do on any PC really anyways. You'd have to use the Rufus + Win11 ISO with requirements disabled as a work-around. Then during the install enter your legit Win10 product key to freely activate that Win11.

You'd still have to install some old Drivers. Such as the AMD Chipset Drivers made for Win7. Once those are installed and rebooted. Install the AMD Ryzen Chipset Driver suite. This package will work and update the drivers on old AM3 systems

No.

There is nothing regarding your hardware that would benefit from the change.

Only newer CPUs should consider the swap, and anyone that has Intel 12000+ (for the task scheduler and memory manager updates in W11+ that are not in Windows 10).
Yes basically Ryzen based or Intel 12th Gen should really be the minimums. It doesn't really help on older systems when Win10 will be juat fine for many years to come still

Linux is pretty good thanks to the work of Steam to make games better. Piracy is a pain in the ass on Linux, but that's alright, most people can buy games.

Of course, Linux isn't a great option if you need to have reliable photo editing and drawing software or are really inexperienced with tech. But distros like Mint and Ubuntu have made the experience a lot better for new users, despite their flaws (main flaw is GNOME lag and bugs which will probably never get better at this point tbh)

your cpu should work with linux. there is official linux drivers for your gpu. linux should work without issues. i would not recommend trying to install windows 11 on an unsupported system however. either stay with windows 10 or go for linux.

you could try one of these free Linux distros.
