headset to pc
I plug in my headset into my windows 11 pc using the audio jack, it either recognise it as a line in, mic in headphone or speaker out. None of these options can have both sound out and mic in?

What is wrong? my mobo is gigabyte 650m DS3H, case is ASUS Ap201, HS55 surround sound headset.

It would work if I use the USB adopter provided, but I understand that is only for 7.1 sound, normal headset should work with audio jack.

I can only get it to work if I plug the headset into my xbox controller and connect my xbox controller via wired usb.

I want to connect it directly to pc using the audio jack, please advise.

4pin headset vs 3pin case

you need an adapter
Yeh, you have a 3.5mm single plug with tripple or quad contacts, two for the stereo headset, and one or two for the mono or stereo mic.

They make adapters to go both ways, you will want one that takes the single plug and splits it into two separate 3.5mm stereo plugs, but not a duplicator an actual splitter, that will make one plug the mic and one the headset, then both will plug into two ports on the board, one port for headset and one port for mic.

Thx
Desktop PCs do not allow for a single jack 4-pole Audio In & Out
If that is what your headset is hardwired for, then you need an adapter.

there are a few cases that have the single 4 pole jack for mobile/controller headset+mic kits
but they do come with the adapter to split them for separate headset and mic

but yea, you also need to config the input/output in realtek audio control panel

Yea any decent headset actually comes with the adapter already.

But yea it's rare to see on Desktops, a majority of them never offer that cause Motherboards haven't changed their audio in like 10+ years.

Yes, i was just surprised that a modern desktop does have the right port to take the 4port jack. My work laptop has no issue.
