Motherboard fan question.
Hi, i have a MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI and i accidentally damaged the fan on the motherboard so 4 fins less on that one. Can say that i have ever seen it spin.

So my question is: Do i really need it? If so how hard is it to replace?

I have pretty ok airflow in the system but that might still not be enough.

its needed,
the x570 chipsets need cooling

if its under warranty (3yr), contact msi, they will send you a new fan

if not, you can find a fan replacement
remove the fan, exact models of the fan are proprietary and direct replacements are not available to the public
but you might be able to measure its size and screw holes for a a one that fits
worst case, there are aftermarket chipset cooling kits that will work for the board

if you cant find the model number, mouser or digikey may have one the same size with similar mounting

2021 so my warranty is out.

You could ask MSI how much is another one, you could try superglue and see if the fins will reattach and stick but they might be too thin and may possibly come off.

Might be best to see what MSI says, can't hurt to ask.

r m a. you can try to search online like amazon or eBay I you want to fix it yourself.

don't glue it.

Did send them a ticket, crossing my fingers but feels like i already know the answer. Tho the fan is still working but missing fins so its not as effective but i guess it helps a bit.

btw it was 4 fins... so that sucks.

out of warranty, cant rma it

take out the fan, find a suitable replacement
You can fix the fan yourself, fairly easy, just a few screws and two plates then the fan itself is one single tiny wire and those fans you should go with OEM for best fool-proof results but get the serial from the OEM fan and hoping you have Amazon, you would find it there cheapest and should not cost anymore than $5 - $10.

For years , from high end to low end we never had problem a motherboard without fan, your PC circulation is importanter
And 4fins still good enough

you give the worst advice
the board has chipset fan because it needs to cool the chipset with it
its sb/chipset heatsink alone is not enough

I had question here, on motherboard when you looked closer was it labeled like "CPU Fan" or "SYS_FAN"?
The scenario when connector just like or the same as SYSTEM_FAN or CPU_FAN then just plug it in SYSTEM_FAN for temporary.
Other side of story, you worried it may affect then GO FOR IT, send to MSI of course it will cost you.

It's a gimmick marketing always have been, that is why i hate buying expensive stuff i supposedly worry free now i need think about fan chipset or not,
Go see Heatsink ssd or without zero performance diff

There is a difference on very long read / writes though, not massive, but it does exist, keeping the memory cooler is a good thing overall as heat is one of the few ways to kill an ssd.

You could remove the fan and cooling from that chip entirely, then grab a little heatsink like this[www.amazon.com]. Stick it down and attach one of these[noctua.at]. It won't be pretty, but it will cool that chip better than the stock solution ever did.

How exactly do you mean?

or get a universal chipset cooler like this
https://www.amazon.com/Heatsink-Aluminium-Universal-Compatible-Adjustable/dp/B0D2FTGL1Y
plug its fan into a fan header on the board, most stock chipset fans do not use standard fan header
