NVidia driver and app installation failed, and what I did to fix it. RESOLVED!
SOLUTION: Uninstall the A/V software first.

AND UPDATE: It looks like it's an issue with Webroot - their support pages have similar convos. Webroot say they will have a fix out in a week.

ANOTHER UPDATE: 18 April.

The problem I was having seems to have gone away (or fixed by NVidia and/or Webroot) as I was able to update the driver via NVidia App after it prompted me that there was an update available.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This morning the NVidia App said there was a driver update ready, so I clicked to run the update - which failed with error 0x80070005. This is what I did to make it install.
I have Win11 24H2 updated to KB5051987, a RTX 3070, and a recent NVidia driver (can't say what as it's now gone).
So I tried again, and of course got the same error. Then I got a new DDU and ran that (not in safe made), including the option to remove the NVidia app (I think I did that?). Then I got the latest app from NVidia and tried to install that, but that failed with the error 0x80070005 too. Likewise the latest driver. I did a chkdsk C: /f as one of the suggestions on how to fix that error advised. Still no luck
So I thought, oh well, might as well do what Bad Mother and others always say - run DDU in safe mode. It's been so long since I've had to do that - I had to look up how to boot to safe mode.
Anyway, that worked - almost. The installation of the driver worked in 'unsafe' mode, but I unchecked the option the install the app. When I tried to install the app in 'unsafe' mode it failed again, but when I rebooted to safe mode and ran the driver installer again but with the 'install app' option checked, it all worked.
So all is good. My main game (Snowrunner) runs, and everything seems fine again.
Lesson from this: follow Bad Mother's advice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Please don't mention linux - I've had more trouble with that in the past and now I'm too old and grumpy to deal with it and I don't have a sacrificial PC to play with.)

Yes there been some issues with the 57x.xx drivers here and there. When issues arise, just DDU > go to Safe Mode > wipe out everything for GPU chipset brand, then reboot and install either very latest driver, or an older known stable one.

Latest 572.70 should be stable now and fixed alot of issues with Black Screens, Lock-ups, etc, Even for GPUs older then RTX 50 series.
574.70 is what I got.
run the installer as admin
if that fails, use ddu in safe mode to remove all traces of the gpu driver, disconnect from the internet, and reboot, then install it again as admin

Many has issues because 570.xx was not really intended to install as an "update" for those who had say, 566.xx installed. You are meant to "clean install" 570 and above when moving from 566.xx or older driver; thus is where DDU comes into play anyways.
Still having some issues with this - I complained to NVidia that the NVidia app performance overlay has limited options ( only had FPS - no GPU temp or usage, no CPU usage like GFE had) and anyway it did not show FPS - juts N/A. I've had 2 responses from NVidia but suggestion have not changed anything - I still had to run the driver install in safe mode.

Somehow I got Afterburner to work, and it give me the stats I wanted. I'm very conservative about GPU temp, so want to monitor that.

Anyway, and ongoing software adventure.
Issues with what exactly?

Download latest GPU Driver and NVIDIA app
Enable Game Mode.
Pause Windows Updates for the max length
Turn Off LAN/WIFI
DDU in safe mode > clean everything NVIDIA.
Reboot
Install the latest driver, reboot when done.
Install latest nvidia app, reboot when done.
Enable LAN/WIFI

Yes BM - did all that - it seems to be a software conflict judging by bits of the msinfo32 report (requested by NVidia support) that wizzed past my old eyes ...
But it's working good enough for the moment, and Afterburner gives me the stats I want.

The issues were/are still that the latest driver and app would only install in safe mode.
Its a bug. The drivers had to be rushed for hotfix purposes, so they are not digitally signed by MS. You can simply disable that option to get around it.
Nah - that didn't work 8-(
Rebooted with 'Disable driver signature enforcement' selected.
It seems to be the installer package that fails - it does not get to menu the select the installation options (ie with or without the app, advanced). In safe mode these appeared and I ticked the the clean install option in the second option - that worked, and here I am.

BTW I enabled enforcement from the CMD prompt.

Anyway, I'm happy to leave it at that until NVidia fix the hotfix! Thanks for your help - in some ways this is my idea of fun ... even though its a PITA.
Thais odd. You sure that Windows Updates is not somehow interfering?
Cause WU will attempt to grab some sort of GPU Driver when it's been uninstalled.
I wish MS would stop doing that by default. Everything should be Optional.
Actual I think that on the reboot into normal, the Microsoft Store version of NVidia Control Panel installs itself. I don't know about a GPU driver. I have WU paused for 2-3 weeks.
If there is a next time I'll look to see what driver the GPU is using after I DDU it and reboot into normal.
I had to regress im on a old 565 Nvidia driver and it works fine. make sure you pick the right drivers for your card and its game ready type.
So I've had a play (can't help myself) with installing different drivers (560.94, the latest 'hotfix' 572.75) with the internet disconnected - and yet again the installers only work in safe mode. I think it's a Windows problem because what used to work (drivers before 572.xx) dont now.
It's up the NVidia to get it right.
Now back on 572.70 installed in safe mode, and it all works ok.

NV CP doesn't come from Microsoft Store, it's injected there once the Driver Suit gets installed. WHY in the F it even gets put into and listed in the MS Store App is beyond me, it serves zero purpose being there.
