best GPU for Ryzen 7 5700X3D?
Hi guys, I just updated my X570 AM4 system to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. Predictably, my old RX 6600 GPU is seriously bottle-necking me so I need to upgrade asap.

Right now I'm looking at either the RX 7800 XT or the RX 7900 GRE. I know the 7900 is better, but I don't know if it's overkill for the 5700X3D. I definitely don't want a CPU bottleneck situation, that's for sure.

Anyone else have experience with these combos? Is the 7900 GRE too much for this system? Should I go with the 7800 XT?

EDIT: I changed the thread title to better reflect the question I’m asking

5700X3D wont be bottlenecking anything, you can go with GRE if you want.
There is also pretty good price on 7900XT currently:

isn't GRE china-exclusive?

Used to be, now it`s sold pretty much everywhere.
have built with both in the last year.....get the GRE.....its a better card that should not be more then a 100 dollars more.....(well at least if you have micro center near you)......you wont really bottleneck anything but a 4090 with a 5700x3d in gaming.....
Thanks for the responses guys. Unfortunately, I think all these cards got wiped out for Black Friday and I’m having trouble finding either card in a brand I want for a reasonable price. Hopefully the stores will be restocked before Christmas. 🎄
They probably won't be to be honest. Rumor was that A.M.D's. retailers were trying to clear out inventory to make way for new models and we have reason to believe that A.M.D. is launching the RX 8800 and the RX 8600 at C.E.S. in janurary[gamerant.com].

The good news for you is that A.M.D. isn't looking to make a flagship product this generation[www.digitaltrends.com]. They're doing this how they did for R.D.N.A. 2 and skipping straight to the mid-tier.

So we're probably saying we have new graphics cards in your price range on store shelves in mid-janurary.

Hmm, interesting. Well, I’ve never had problems buying last gen cards before. I mean, I only bought my 6600 2 years ago. I find it hard to believe they sold ALL the high end 7000 cards.

Well, I’ll keep an eye out. Maybe something will become available soon. I was hoping to grab something before my Christmas vacation so I can do some serious gaming. ;)
Looks pretty cleaned out indeed. Few weeks ago there were plenty of 7800XT for $430, GRE for $520 and 7900XT for $650. Now nothing but emptiness or crazy prices.

Yeah I missed my moment. I should have grabbed something when I had the chance. :(

Oh well, live and learn. I’ll just keep trying to find a good deal somewhere before Christmas. 🎅🏼
Ok I found a PowerColor Red Devil 7800 XT for 550$. Seems reasonable.

I really wanted a Sapphire Nitro though. Anybody know if the Red Devil is comparable to the Nitro in performance and value?
I think you're just getting hosed to be honest. You wait for black friday and cyber-week as the last opportunity to buy for the year.

If you really can't wait past christmas for some reason, this RX 6800[www.newegg.com] for $370 seems to be the least bad if you really can't bring yourself to wait..

This 7800 XT is only $470 if you have to have a card[www.newegg.com] of that calibur, although most of what I've read is that it doesn't really move the dial much from the 6800 or the 6800 xt. That sale ends pretty shortly so I'm not sure it'll be the same price by the time you read this.

But look, also, despite being A.M.D's. closest equivalent the 7800 xt is a flatly worse card than the RTX 4070. This M.S.I. RTX 4070 is $524 with $20 rebate.[www.newegg.com]. If you can get a 4070 for $550, which is its M.S.R.P. you're not going to want to get a 7800 xt for $550.

I saw an XFX 7900 XT for $620, and at least one 7900 G.R.E. variant for $480, but I don't remember what the variant was. Probably another XFX model since they generally make the cheapest variant of any given A.M.D. card.

I wouldn't buy AMD. That is if you value honest opinion instead of the circlejerk. Their CPUs got better with zen5 but their GPUs remain overpriced and obsolete.
I also wouldn't buy a vcache CPU unless I use my setup only for gaming.

Your choice what you do with your money.
both those gpus will work with that gpu presuming you run 1440p

the 7900GRE might be bottlenecked 1-2% in some games.. but still give a better output than that 7800xt

get what fit your long term gaming budget sceme
