The amount or Ram a video card has does not determine it's performance. The higher the number ( R7 260, R9 280, etc) the better the performance will be. I would recommend returning it if that's possible because that is a very low end card that will not play many new games well if it can play them at all. I would recommend nothing les than an R7 260X. That should be able to handle most games at medium to low settings at 1080p. What resolution are you playing at? If you reduce the resolution you should get more performance. What are the rest of your system specs? Check out this site for some information on the graphics cards that have the best performance for the money. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html

I was going to say something similar but it seems that you have that covered.

Anyway, do some actual research on different graphics cards(or any other PC component) before buying them.

Dont get anything lower then R7 260X, GTX 750 level for games.
Also if you plan on getting a better GPU you have to make sure your power supply is up to the task.
Alright i guess i am going to take it back and then buy the Radeon R9 270
Make sure you have a good quality 500w+ PSU otherwise you might have some major problems and a damaged computer.

i have a 600 watt PSU right now. its a bronze corsair so i might upgrade that too
Actaully that's a good PSU and 600w is enough to run most cards. I would suggest spending the extra money on a better GPU or possibly save it for some other upgrades or maybe even a game :)
What is a r5 230? Never even heard of it.
If you have 600W Corsair PSU then get R9 270X instead, it's better then R9 270 and price difference is quite small. Or can also go with GTX 760 if you find some good deal on that.

2 Gb. 4 Gb version is just sales gimmic since the card is not powerful enough to use 4 Gb of VRAM.

Very nice choice.

Correct, the gk104 chip on the gtx 760 has been proven that it will barely even use more that 2 of the 4 GB of ram.
Yepp, this is often a marketing trick by the lowend videocards, putting a RAM ammount like on the better cards and hope that it will sell. Those cards cannot even use that much RAM, due the weak chip or/and the low 64bit memory interface is basically bottlenecking itself.
I myself can also "boast" in my old machine with a 512MB Geforce 6200, which was noticably weaker as the 256MB 6600GT. Though that PC wasnt used for gaming to begin with.

And good choice. Both the R270 and the GTX 760 are real gaming cards.
