Great basic design, palm grip, ideal weighting, comfortable for long hours of gaming, flexable tangle-free cabling and can be abuse every day, all day for over 8 years and still work like the day you purchased it.
Use a Razer Goliathus (Control or Speed Edition, depending on your playing style) mousepad with it for complete control and comfort.
If you need a keyboard too, match it with the same software package. Such as Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition with the Razer DeathAdder, or Logitech G710+ keyboard with the G500 mouse. This way devices don't conflict and you only have to install/update one package which managements them all. Else you could find their software rather bunkly.
Highly recommended for most gamers, who also use the PC for general use/work.
Additional tips for gaming purposes...
Go for wired mouse (it should be weaved stitched cable to avoid tangle/drag) rather than wireless. Wireless can become a drop out headache with prolong hours of gaming.
Depends on your hand size and playing style, but most prefer flat palm compared to grip or claw mice. Lay your hand flat over the mouse and check out it's feel - most computer stores allow you to do this through the packaging.
Extremely high DPI doesn't matter (can be turned down - you might set it to around 1200-1800 DPI, for some hardcore FPS old school games such as Counter Strike even set it as low as 400-800 DPI), rather that more depends on sensitivity level, raw input, and your monitor size, however report polling rate should always be max out at 1000 for best performance. Extremely low DPI on larger monitors will start the mouse skipping over pixels, you don't want that, but by lowing it just enough you get a quicker/snappier response in certain FPS games. You want to get it to a point to be able to spin around in a circle without the aim going up or down (if it does, you have a problem with positive or negative acceleration and it should be adjusted and ensured raw input). On the other hand, you would enjoy higher DPI for pixel perfect accuracy such as drawing - it is best to set three DPI settings and toggle if desired.
Set windows pointer speed to 6/11, disable acceleration, and enable raw mouse input into games.
If the mouse has weights - put in enough so when moving it around it doesn't slow you but rather just minimises the lift up off the mouse pad. That will help give you a faster/cleaner response time as well as feel more conformable over a period of use.
Ever spill your drink because someone was behind you and you tried to turn around or look up to kill them, and your hand flys into the glass? It will never be a problem with a trackball.
I remember the days of the regular mouse, I was always picking it up an moving it back to the other side of the mousepad to keep turning my character around, diein' 'cuz It went off the pad and my character looks up in the air and starts spinning ballet, and then of course the spilling the drink promblem, puching the guy on you right at the cafe by trying to run around a corner to the right, not to mention always having to take it apart and get all the dust out twice a week, and all those little moving parts that are so easy to break.. lol.
GET A TRACKBALL/MARBLE mouse. Benefits: More ergonomic, hand stays in one place, Only one big moving part: the Ball, easier to clean, lasts longer, no more wasting money on new mouse pads and new mice, faster turn around speed, more control, more precise, most come with 4+ buttons, there is a 16 button Trackball mouse by Logitech. Best chioice for First Person Shooters.
The only drawback: few come with the mouse wheel option, Logitechs 16 button Trackball has no wheel. The wheel would be a good throttle for driving games, but the ball is not a good steering mechinism either.
I've found that the extra buttons are really useful for me with Dota 2 and Skyrim(With the SkyUI mod's hotkeys).
• 5 mouse buttons + 2 fixed
• USB wired
• 3 dpi settings can be change on the fly
• claw grip (perfect for smaller hands)
• ring-finger rest
• relatively cheap!
( Just never LOOK directly into the optical light to tease out that interfering cat hair -- It's bright enough to signal passing planes! )
All are very good quality.
Plenty of buttons on the 502 & 602
Use of macros through software is a life-saver in some games, once u get used to it.
