My Old Laptop (Operating System That's Best)

So I was looking around in my closet, and I found my old 2006 HP Laptop. It runs Windows 7 alright, though after an hour of continuous use it slows down. I was wondering what operating system would run fastest on my old Laptop:

Specs:

Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2060 @1.60GHz
RAM: 1GB
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 32 bit
Graphics: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family

It may be a cooling issue, not an OS issue.

If it starts slowing down after a bit, that's probably a hardware issue. I'd say that it's the 1GB of RAM in that thing and the fact that modern programs use more RAM than back then.

Yes I installed Windows 7 Myself. It used to have Vista.

Yeah, but I wouldn't recommend it since the os is now retired.

I would say the 1GB RAM is not enough for the processes what you run. As you keep opening various programs, the number of processes in the background is raising.

I run 2GB on my second PC with XP, 8GB on my primary with 7. I think you can go for XP SP3, it might be outdated, but with that setup you will not play modern games anyways and for ocassional messing arround will not play a role that XP isnt supported anymore by Microsoft. No support doesnt means that the OS will not run and will handle most programs so or so.

This laptop isn't for gaming, as that's why I have my super powerful desktop. This laptop is just for most likely music or something. I don't really have a use for it, I just want it to run as fast as possible.

Linux OSs have their ups and downs compared to Windows OSs, I can't really say it's fair to call either better or worse.

Last I tried Linux, it left quite a impact on me - I was glad to be a Windows user.

A classic XP with the latest possible update will run faster on his 1GB system as anything else. Of course is his choice, not mine.

XP was one of the greatest OS's ever in its time. It was efficent, stable, and easy to use. People loved it. There is a reason 30% of computers still run it even if it is 12 years old. Btw linux only has about 1 or 2% of the OS market share. I like linux, I just don't think it is any good for general use.

Uhh no! Arguably the greatest OS of all time is not "just Crap"... If it was still supported I'd be building my new computer with it. But with a name like that you have an obvious bias I understand.
