Thanks - just looked at the Proteus Core 502 - does it matter if it is wired or not?

I personally have the g500S and it is the best mouse i've ever owned!!

However i highly recommend the proteus core (look at my avatar) since its got a better sensor.

Is the proteus core good when you are aiming your weapon? Is that were the sensor comes in? I read that there can be a lag time with wireless between your click and the shot being fired and that is is instanteous with wired mice - but that a wired mouse does not give you the freedom of movement a wireless one has....no wonder I am confused .... or is it all just personal preference?

Wireless has gotten so good these days that there is very little, not even noticable, lag. But I personally just go with wired so I don't have to deal with batteries and pairing.

Thanks for your thoughts- last question - is there a big difference between the 500 and the 400? The G400S looks interesting also-

G400s is pretty nice optical mouse and works well for gaming. G500s uses laser with higher DPI but some people actually prefer optical mice with medium range DPI.

You can also check out Corsair M65:

white version is $5 cheaper.

Or SteelSeries Sensei Diablo III version:

Logitech MX518 was the best optical gaming mouse back in the old school days when I was just a little kid...

G500 is meant to be it's laser replacement with higher DPI. Those mice will not disappoint you! They are not as fancy as some, but have everything you need and nothing you don't, and never seem to break. 8 years later+, after daily hours of hardcore gaming abuse, they still work like the day you brought them. Seriously I've given my old one to dad which I got and abused when I was a kid, and it's still working fine!

Using the G500 now, later on get a Razer Razer Goliathus (Control or Speed, depending on your playing style) mouse pad for it. This will complete it and make it excel for faster pase FPS games, etc, as well as still be great for all general work use - it's the perfect all-rounder flat palm mouse with non-tangle cable, you can use for hours on end and still be comfortable. Highly recommended.

Options for it:

Set the Report Rate to 1000Hz

Disable Window's Mouse Acceleration and set Speed to 6/11. You don't want positive or negative acceleration for games, as this can slightly throw off your aim no matter what mouse your using. A good way to test, is enter a FPS game like CS and spin around with one right flick of the mouse, the aim shouldn't move up or down. If you start looking upwards to the sky, then negative acceleration is affecting you.

Set the DPI Sensitivity middle level to around 1200 DPI for standard use, add another two levels for quick adjustments depending on the task or game. You might wish to adjust a bit depending on your monitors size and your reaction time.

Add those tiny weights 1.7g around and 4.5g middle slot of the cartridge, adjust as desired, to the point you don't lift the mouse much height off the table at all - but still comfortable to move quickly around.

This is more for if your a competitive gamer, wanting a little edge.

Which really means they reduce their in game sensativity to make up for the DPI boost.

I'm using a G400s as well. My G400 had issues so they sent me a S version undere warranty.

I love the alienware tactx mouse... I understand it's just a rebrand of a more expensive (I think logitech) mouse... It's a wicked mouse though. .. Just wish you could get it wireless.
