Best PC Gaming Headset 2014?
I'm curious to look for a replacement Headset...

I had an old Logitech one which I really liked, didn't need drivers and enjoyed till it broke, then replaced it with a Logitech G35.

Spos it's alright, but I find a couple of really annoying problems with it. The software for starters is a nightmare, but can bundle with my G500 mouse and G710+ keryboard. For the headset however, I have to plug into the USB when I want to use, get Steam Client to detect it, then launch a game such as Dota 2, find a match, when ingame I have to jump back to readjust the mic volume as it set itself to max (for the first match only).

There's also an annoying high pitched 'eeeeeee' low sound from the speaker on the microphone side when the mic is in use. If the mic is turned off, it's not there. Was thinking it was faulty at first, but found out they all do this. IDK haven't been able to fix it.

So is it worth staying with the Logitech G35 and attempting to find a fix?

Or move onto a better headset?

I have an audiophoic sound card (SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium HD - I don't personally recommend SoundBaster at all, except for this card, it's amazing - I guess it's almost made my ears more demanding for high quality). So have the option to use optical digital in DTS or Dolby Digital, rather than just using USB, which might add to the experience and make the most of my hardware?

Got my eyes currently on the Turtle Beach Z Seven or XP Seven. Anyone used them or suggest similar/better?

Thanks, those do look pretty sweet and audiophonic! Probably bypass the USB and hit directly to the sound card via 3.5mm? Digital optical isn't support right? Plus they are stereo 2.0, would you still hear an emulated or real sound scape of 5.1? Don't need a Mixamp, etc, since I have a quality sound card right? Do you know how they compare with those Turtle Beach XP Seven? The price keeps on going up heh, I'm looking at a possible up to 50% off sale thou :)

Note it appears to be MMX300-II now, I don't know if that means it's been improved even more? EDIT: Might just be colour difference - MMX300 is white and silver highlights, MMX300-II is smokey chrome accents (also known still as MMX300 on other sites by the looks).

Hang on, you just said you use the G35 USB headset but you have a sound card too?

USB headsets have built in sound card, so putting a descrete sound card in your pc will not make a difference.

Get auxillary jack headsets, like a G230 or Vengeance 1300.

If you have Xi-Fi Titanium sound card then just get some quality Sennheiser headphones with 3.5 mm plug and separate mic for talking. Would be ten times better sound quality then with those USB headsets.

HBZK100 - Yes, that's why I want to return the G35 USB Headset and pick a better option, it's not making any good use of my sound card at the moment.

I'm currently considering between 3.5mm Stereo 2.0 such as the MMX300-II or going for 5.1 Dolby Surround with something like the Turtle Beach XP Seven? Separate micphone and headphone would be another option. Do you know if it's worth making use of digital optical over 3.5mm? The Xi-Fi Titanium HD has both available, and juices out 5.1 Dolby Live or DTS Connect (currently selected). I might need to utilize the SPDIF jack to get real 5.1 audio, but how would it compare to MMX300 stereo quality?

Thanks for the help so far guys!

Here are some worth looking at.

Without mic
AKG 550
Audio-Technica ATH-AD500x or 700x
Denon AH-D600
Shure SRH840

With Mic
Qpad QH 90
Qpad QH 1339 (possibility a Rebranded MMX 300)

@ // MeGa - USB HeadSets I want to move away from due to the fact I have an audiophonic sound card, USB will just bypass and use it's own emulated surround.

@ Dinosaur Mango - Cheers for some more possible options, wish I could narrow it down thou.

Can I even use the Dolby from my Xi-Fi Titanium HD via the SPDIF jack to headphones or am I just best to stick with high quality Stereo via the standard 3.5mm headphones jacks on it?

Leaning towards the Beyerdynamic MMX300, it has my interest. Is it worth it or should I get a DT770, DT880, or DT990 instead, then find a separate microphone?
