Intel-Rapid Storage Technology
what exactly does it mean when you enable acceleration for a SATA Hard Disk ?
what happens ?
what improvements would i see (if any) ?
is it advised to do this ?

i noticed this option a while ago to accelerate but never clicked it !!!

annoying, my system boots up fast and i cant see how to enter BIOS
i tried recording the bootup process on my iphone but before it focuses ,its gone

ok, so im thinking google woteva my motherboard is & find out what button enters BIOS, because i am having no joy getting in

iv been in before, last year....im gonna try one last time before i resort to google !
For most motherboards, it is the F2 button (others can be F1, DEL, ESC, or F10)... tap it multiple times right at the start, before the Windows boot screen appears. It should prompt you 'Press <The key to use> to enter BIOS setup' for like a split second, so yeah sometimes it's easy to miss and sometimes even hidden below a splash on some motherboards (press ESC to see it's text underneath).

i got in...

i opened advanced, i seen no SATA options
i seen-
hard disk boot priority
quick boot
efi cd/dvd boot option
first boot device
second boot device
third boot device
password check
HDD smart capability
limit cpuid max. to 3
no-execute memory test
delay for HDD
full screen logo show
init display first

all these were under advanced

i use a gigabyte motherboard
It should say BIOS or CMOS Setup on it. Make sure it's not just a boot menu, etc.

You might have different tabs, refer to the motherboard book if completely lost.

It would normally look like (your's might look different):

MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T) - used for overclockers
Standard CMOS Features
Advanced BIOS Features
Advanced Chipset Features
Integrated Peripherals <--- This is where you most likely will find it under
IDE Configuration <--- or this if named differently
Power Management
PCI Configurations
PC Health Status

Your looking for 'SATA Controller' - 'SATA Mode/Type' which would have IDE / AHCI / RAID as the options. You might use Page Up / Page Down or arrow keys and press enter to select RAID on it, if not already on that mode. If done correctly and nothing else changed, press F10 to save.

As above, but to go into more detail about one area you would most likely want...

.

Under your BIOS, it must be set to 'RAID' mode.

Boot up your PC and ensure you have the latest 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' software installed. If done correctly and available - a new 'Performance' tab appears (else it's completely hidden).

Double-click the RST icon, and in the resulting control panel click the Accelerate menu button; then select the SSD and specify how much storage space to dedicate to Smart Response Technology. Select the amount of cache you want (64GB max).

Select it to the HDD you want to acceleration.

Two modes are available: Enhanced and Maximized. Enhanced (safe) is essentially a write-through cache mode, with writes speeds limited by the hard drive's performance. Maximized (fast) mode acts as a write-back cache, an arrangement that yields optimum overall performance, because it involves caching writes and then writing them to the hard drive later.

'Maximized mode' is best performance.

.

ok, iv set it to RAID

im not sure how to check if i have the latest IRST software installed

but i can see the accelerate option

do i have the all-clear to accelerate ?!

That's great, no need to mess with it then...

Under IRST > Help > About
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Version: 12.9.0.1001

If not, rock up to and follow the download link for it: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/rapid-storage-technology.html

Then all-clear to accelerate this bad boy!

Under IRST > Performance > It currently says nothing is already accelerated right? Select and accelerate that SSD onto your main standard HDD with the Operating System (or another if you wish). Under the Acceleration View, it should say 'SATA Array - RAID 0 Cache volume' on your SSD and Accelerated appear on your SATA disk (standard hard drive).

Re-run that Windows Experience Index, if you added the boost to the main drive.

Use your PC as normal, running you fav games/apps and they will automatically be moved as cache onto your SSD for faster performance. Over a short period of time, you should feel a difference.

Enjoy the boost!

ok, iv messed up or something..
followed the link, proceeded to download the zip file for IRST 64bit file it was the version u spoke of, it was 0.35mb
it then asked me to extract all the files, i did that and they on my system
did i DL the right file ? my IRST not showing updated version
there was a file for 16mb but that was for multiple languages so i left it...
i got it
i am accelerated, this is cool !!

so i dont need to specify certain programs or software to my SSD cache ?
itl use it automatically ?
cant believe its been sitting in my rig for 2 year untouched,
its like iv just unwrapped a 2 yr old gift

thanks for all the help, today is a good day ! :)
