DX12 info (Fermi and Keplar will suport it), 2015 release date
I've been watching the live blog for the DX12 reveal at GDC and there's some good news I'd like to share.

- DX12 has been in development for 4 years now

- Nvidia has announced DX12 support for Fermi and Keplar series of cards. So if you were afraid that you'd need an upgrade you're good to go. This includes the 400 series (except the 450 since it isn't Fermi), 500 series, 600 series, and 700.

- No word on AMD whether GCN will support it but I'd imagine it would.

- Intel Haswell will support it

- They plan to have it in 100 percent of new desktop GPUs, 80 percent of gaming PCs and in the hands of 50 percent of gamers upon release.

- It will release in 2015 with a preview release this year.

- It supports PC (Of course), mobile, and Xbox One.

- They said that they know Windows 7 support is a popular request but no OS support was announced yet. Since it's backwards compatible with hardware I'd imagine Win 7 will support it. Their claims of having it in the hands of 50% of gamers upon release hints at it too I think.

- It will be very low level so expect performance improvements during CPU heavy sequences. They used 3DMark to show us what it can do. With d3d12, CPU utilization was down 50% and the workload was more spread out.

- They also demoed Forza 5 running on PC with Nvidia hardware to show the increased performance (No, Forza 5 PC isn't confirmed).

Anyway the live blog is over and I was watching it here: http://www.pcper.com/live/

You can still go through the presentation. This is all very exciting. With such low level access we won't have to worry about upgrading CPU's so soon and it really helps because the CPU side of things has stalled in terms of progress.

All I can say is they'd be dumb not to give Win7 the support. Vista was updated for DX11 support, so they should do the same for Win7 instead of pushing Win8 so much.

I'm surely not going to update to Win8 just for DX12. Hopefully they have the OS polished a bit more when Win9 comes, which isn't far off.

I edited my post with some more info and this is what they said.

"They plan to have it in 100 percent of new desktop GPUs, 80 percent of gaming PCs and in the hands of 50 percent of gamers upon release."

Unless they expect the majority of people to use a new OS by 2015 then Win 7 must have been calculated in these numbers.

Good to see my other setups that use GTX 500 and 600 series GPUs won't be left out.
While my main setup has SLI GTX 770s, and I was pretty confident the 700 series would have full support, I was wondering about older GPUs.

Thanx for the info share!
