720p with maxed-out settings VS 1080p with low settings
I'm gaming on a 43 inch 1080p TV. I read that it's always best to game in your monitor/TV's native resolution. Most games run fine at 1080p (except for games where it scales down the font. this makes it unplayable and I have to crank down the resolution, but that's for another discussion) with texture settings, AA, etc. turned down. I read that playing games at 720p is a sin since it makes the game blurry, but it doesn't look that bad to me, honestly. It's not 1080p obviously, but not noticeably bad.

I guess this is more of a poll for those that game on 1080p televisions. If your computer can't handle 1080p at high or even medium/default settings, do you game at 1080p with low everything, or crank it down to 1280x720 with maxed out settings?

Also, somewhat-sort of-maybe on topic, does AA make a difference in 1080p resolution?

if you can see pixels at 720, run it at a lower setting at 1080

If running at 720p does not seem too bad, but u still want some AA applied, try running @ 1080p and then apply FXAA. While FXAA can appear a bit blurry to most people, it is one of the better methods of applying AA that is less of a performance hit to your GPU (if it supports this method).

Overall, you're probably better off running at the screens native res and then just turning quality settings down slightly (or as needed) to compensate for any FPS lose due to high res.

The Batman games are the only games I've seen with the FXAA option. I'm assuming the Nvidia Control Panel has an option for it, but I was told to always leave the graphic overide settings alone (I still use it for Vsync for the games that don't have an option, that's a necessity). FXAA did seem to make the game blurrier, but it actually worked to the game's advantage since it fit the atmosphere well.

I'll keep that in mind and try running games at 1080p and just turning the quality settings down until I can get a better video card. Sadly, there's some games I'll never be able to play in 1080p no matter what video card I have. Games like SimCity 4 for example, have microscopic text and interface. Hopefully there's a third-party way around that eventually.

Yes most NVIDIA GPUs that are 400 series and above should support FXAA through NVIDIA CP. Yes u should have it disabled, but it does not hurt to try enabling it if a game does not have this option already within the game itself. Given that u are using NVIDIA Forceware 300.xx version or higher if memory serves me correct, which u should be using the latest WHQL version, which should be somewhere around 335.23

If u do not wish to over-ride the NVIDIA CP Global 3D Settings, you can manually add a game .exe to the listing (if not there already) and then use a game specific over-ride.
