Looks like it is still there in some form: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57616440-285/find-your-windows-experience-index-scores-in-windows-8.1/
Yes, yes, it's just leftover cruft they probably forgot to remove, I know.
Gee I dunno, maybe it's a signal for upgrade time...
The SSD and W8 brought a lot of life back to it. It still worked well with a HD and W7 but I sure do like W8 and I didn't think I was going to at first.
... except that Win 7 WEI is capped at 7.9, while Win 8 can go up to 9.9!
MUST PURCHASE NOW TO GET HIGHER WEI!!! lol
ps: Win 8 costs less than Win 7 does... in three different occassions you could get a legal copy for free, but I didn't bother.
Not using the Cloud and doubt I will. I'm old school and don't want any info stored out on the net.
I do not use IE, except if necessary. Hasn't been needed yet but I keep it updated for security reasons.
I do not, nor will I ever use Office 360.
I don't care much about the store.
Boot times with an SSD are great. Less than 20 secs on this old dinosaur, upon pressing the power button. The motherboard post, including the adapter card I installed for the SSD, takes longer than W8 take to load once the post is done.
Memory management is superior to W7 by a perceptible difference.
Everything is much smoother but some of that is SSD, of course.
In all, there is only a few things I am disappointed in but it is still fairly new to me. I'll probably find ways around them, I usually do...
I.E....
For as long as I can remember, back to W3.1 or earlier, highlighted selections in the file manager remained highlighted when sorting. Not so anymore in W8 and it is really quite frustrating when digging for info...
The search function sucks as far as I am concerned but then again, I need a bit more time with it. I doubt my opinion is going to change much though.

I don't take WEI very seriously; I take it with a pinch of salt.
They removed the GUI and a good chunk of the functionality as well. The only reason why it is left in Windows 8 is probably because they just couldn't be arsed to remove completely (Windows is stuffed full of legacy tools going back to Windows 95).
