find an i5 or i7 with a gtx card
tf2 likes 2 fast cores and a good gpu
this is $650
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231239
* Intel Core i5 3230M (2.60GHz)
* 8GB Memory 750GB HDD
* NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M
* Windows 8 64-Bit
EDIT: Meh, looks cool but I want to save a bit of cash. Thanks for the suggestion tho!
I really don't recommend laptops. For $500 you should look for one with a A8 or A10 AMD APU or i5 with Intel HD 4600 probably. AMD APU A10 is the best choice. Might be lucky and score okay dedicated graphics card but don't count on it.
However if you really must have a laptop this is the best I found for the price:
* CPU Model: A10-5750M with Radeon™ HD 8650G
* CPU Line: AMD Quad-Core A10-Series APU for Notebooks ( 4 core 3.5GHz, 4GHz Turbo)
* GPU Model: AMD Radeon HD 8650G (integrated graphics @ 409.34 GFLOPS)
* Hard Drive size: 750GB
* Memory Amount: 8GB
In stores only (Walmart)

It does come with a free copy of Battlefield 4 as a positive thing. It probably has to play at lower settings and lower resolution that the screen is capable of but I guess it will work.
It's a nice PC for the money but it's not a great gaming computer, better than PS3 but below PS4 as a basic way to measure it. You will likely have to play things at reduced settings or resolutions (above PS3 console quality still) and there will come a time all too soon when it's just not enough to keep on running your games on this for most new releases.
they will overheat and throttle
We are talking about the same "Team Fortress 2" here right?

noice the empty server and lack of fps
That video is of a C-50 Ultra-mobile APU. C-50!!!!!! 1GHz, 2 cores. Not for games, barely for Windows 7, better for Android.
That's a 1GHz dual core CPU. Wonder why it doesn't play great? It barely beats the minimum specs which call for a 1.7GHz single core CPU and recommended is a 3GHz single core.
Also I'd be scared to run Windows 7 or 8 with that. Windows XP, Android or some types of Linux would be fine though.
The A10 5750m CPU has 4 cores at 3.5GHz with 4GHz Turbo. It's more than 4 times faster than the recommended specs. It should be able to play it GREAT. It's over 7 times better than the C-50 ultra-mobile APU so I'd think the FPS, quality and whatever else would be pretty nice.
and find a better tf2 gameplay vid with a amd mobile apu if you can
again tf2 only needs 2 fast cores, amd cores are not fast
High:30-50
Medium:40-60
Low:50-70
Also he's playing at 1366*768 resolution.
I'm actually surprised i's not better, but it's playable at high and good FPS at medium.
I'm specially surprised it's not higher since the C-50 is getting 10-30 FPS even when recording.
The laptop I suggested comes with BF4 and I would assume that means it can play it.
