If you have a 2013 mac or any usb 3.0 port (i think any) then you need to buy a usb 2.0 hub and connect the headset to that. the reason is because they are not compatible (software wise) with usb 3.0 but connecting it to a 2.0 hub will fix it. Does not have to be powered
USB 3.0 ports are backwards compatible by default (might require the USB 3.0 driver to be present/installed) As far as what spec a Headset/Mic will use will be based on what it was designed to use, which is most likely USB 1.1/2.0, but again shouldn't be an issue on 3.0, just won't run at that speed/spec unless designed to.
The amp has alot of controls so I would start there. Do a test with the Mic set to High (via the switch on the amp side) and then change to Low and compare your results. Then in MacOS, try changing the Mic Input Level up/down and compare clarity/results.
Some mics are not compatible with 3.0 look up "blue yetti usb 3.0" and you will se loads of problems. I am telling you though that it will work with a usb hub. Because I needed one for it to work. I tried it on a friends mac that uses 3.0 and it still didnt work. used it with a olde rmac on 2.0, works fine.
It simply is not compatible with usb 3.0
