BTW the LGA2011-3 is considered next gen since it will also support the new Broadwell-E Chip on the horizon for 2015....go do some research. The normal Skylake (slated for 2016) and Broadwell chips (both non E variants) will need LGA 1151 and 1150 respectively.
it can do ok with games, but for gaming its beter to spend less on a cpu (1150 i5/i7) and more on a gpu (gtx 980)
Ps. I seriously hope that you are wrong about DX12 and rendering with cpu as GPU's are made for rendering and do that much more efficiently than cpu. All i have read about DX12 is that it can utilize multiple threads more efficiently so cpu single thread performance should not have as big impact as it has now. That and more direct access to gpu resources.
Sorry everyone. Seems this derailed again. It would be best to have tech argument thread separately i guess xD
Also, for a so called workstation build as this is considered, it runs every game I own, about 75 or so with all Origin and Ubisoft titles like a champ all day. I'll keep it!
Most gamers only need 8Gb of RAM. I agree with the 64GB SSD, but it's a starting point. The GTX 970 crushes the GTX 960. Your selection of a 6 core at 3.3Ghz isn't the best choice for gaming. The one I selected is much better for gaming with 4GHz per core.
I have a GTX 970 and it's great. This memory issue is being blown out of proportion.
BTW, ibuypower and cyberpowerpc are owned by the same parent company. So, you take your pick on which you prefer buying from.
That power supply unit isnt something i would use, but im willing to pay a lot more for a quality PSU. Consider a Corsair HX series if you want really reliable and efficient power.
If you must go amd, go all the way, get AMD CPU and GPU. Keep in mind that AMD drivers can mean issues in some games, they typically get optimized last over Nvidia. AMD CPU's typically preform worse than Intel, but are cheaper. Getting both AMD CPU and GPU means youll be able to take advantage of their Mantle tech down the road (if any developers make use of it at least)
Also, keep in mind shipping. Ibuy and Cyberpower are california companies. Also they tend to speed build the rigs. Give it a 25% chance youll be shipping your rig back. If you live in the midwest or east coast id suggest AVA Direct, which has a really poor website system compared to ibuy/cyber but are based out of cleveland. Shorter transit time is good considering how risky the trip is.
I had to return and refund my cyberpower build. They seemed way over booked with builds. Took them a month to tell me a case wasnt in stock vs telling me off the bat, so it took nearly three months for me to get my rig. When i got it....thermal paste all over the mobo...heatsink fan was jimmy rigged to the heatsink with zip ties on the front and loose and not connected in the back. The case was warped because they power drilled the case shut without the panel being properly aligned. The SSD wasnt operational, and they knew this, because they installed the OS on the HDD when it was very clear the SSD was the OS drive.
So im sure 75% of cyber/ibuy builds go without issue. They seemed to be to have too much business and rushed the build, being sloppy with it, and shipped what was obviously a computer that never went through their testing, or even a second look before shipping.
AVA got me my build in 3 weeks, pristine assembly, and when i ordered someone talked to me about some parts i wanted, saying stuff like "we get a decent amount of returns with issues for that specific power supply unit, weve never had an issue with this one, same brand and same price, go with that one" and also the rig booted to desktop (cyberpower you need to install windows yourself) with files from their burn in with results, so i know it got tested. Really crappy site though, hard to make a build since different starting points have different options for no reason.
pay somepone to do it.
i have a 970 too , and no problems with it , it's blown way out of proportions imo , and honestly that class action lawsuit isn't gonna go anywhere either i don't think.
i do however had the 5820 , im happy with it ... put a wc kit on it and over clock it to 4+ , and you have 6 cores running at that speed...
