Having issues with Xfinity Technicolor TC8305C not letting Steam connect +port forwarding
I've recently switched out my old modem to a newer modem with a firewall and wireless, only to find out later that Steam will not connect, and when I set up the port forwarding for Steam, it doesn't work. I've tried both Portforwarding.com's way, and the suggested way given in Steam Support. but neither one wants to work.

Any security software/ firewall software interfering?

To be honest, most routers should have UPnP set to enabled by default which would mean port forwarding isn't even necessary.
It has UPnP enabled with Advertisement Period: 1 Minutes, Time to Live: 4 hops, and Enable Zero Config set to disabled.

I haven't been having this issue until the newer modem/router was installed, which is pissing me off.

When you do port forwarding in the router config what IP are you using?
I'm using the set IP address for IPv4 Address for my computer.

You might have IP address confused? If so, you probably need to reset IP address.

PS: I'm not sure how that reset thing work.
I got it fixed,
The firewall was set to typical, which blocks IDS enabled, IDENT (Port 113), ICMP request, Peer-to-Peer apps: kazaa, bittorrent, gnutella, vuze.
But I backed it down to minimum, everything started working again, so I now have to figure out what's causing what.

Alright.. well when port forwarding on the router you use the Routers Internal IP not your external IP. keep that in mind next time.
Ok, I've fixed the issue, I set my firewall level to custom, and left Peer-to-Peer turned off, and blocked the ports for Kazaa, bittorrent, gnutella, and vuze, and everything is A Okay!

Confirmed, this particular router's standard "block P2P" setting will also block Steam and Battle.net connecting through the client. Recommend leaving P2P unblocked and only blocking the ports for certain services like Stealth did.
over a year later, and I've not had a single problem since.

Comcast is generally really helpful with issues, but sometimes their 1st line support folks aren't too boned up on more advanced issues. If you're like me and you pull more data than your monthly allotment, you have to acknowledge the popups that hit your screen advising you that you've gone over, otherwise they choke down your bandwidth until you contact them. Here's the kicker, though - as networks are fairly heterogenous, sometimes the popup notifications don't get through - and they can back up and slow down the modem, and anything using the internet will become impossible. If you have a Comcast email address, be sure to check that and respond to any emails they send regarding your usage. If all's clear, you're still having issues and 1st line support cannot resolve, give the Security folks a try -- I have found their Security people to be absolutely brilliant. They even have their own direct dial number - 1(888) 565-4329.:steammocking:

It is older thread you know?
Yes, this thread is at least a year old there NaurTheWolf, please do check the time date. Plus, I figured out what was going on without needing to calling them.

Ah... I'm happy to see that you're doing well with your modem. Sometime issue is no funny. I had issue with my modem and wireless but I solved by clone MAC address on my router.
