It most likely can't use the NVIDIA GPU via HDMI Out.
Also it could be your Display, as many HDMI on 4K TV are 30Hz only.
Could be your HDMI cable spec as well.
4k takes about 4x the gpu load vs 1080
the cable may also be limiting to 4k30hz
It could be this because the cable is rated for 4k 60 fps, also it is capable of achieving 60 fps on the games im running on the laptop itself, just not while its plugged into a source , whether it be micro usb or hdmi, but I was wondering if there were any work arounds for this happening,. Id hate to buy a real "gaming laptop" when there is a solution. Thanks for the reply guys,
as Ive said, make your monitor primary the screen will turn off on your laptop, which is fine with me, as long as I can get that silky smooth 60 fps projectors provide, thanks for all the suggestions.
But yes if you want to do Extended Desktop and run the Games properly on the External, then the External must be set as the Primary.
Again this is due to the limits of your laptop and/or gpu. As it's much too weak to drive multiple displays @ 60+ Hz all at the same time, especially when one or more screens has 4K res; as 1x 4K Display is equivalent to 4x 1080p screens.
The only good Lenovo laptops are IdeaPad Y Series and the LEGION series.
