How to stop PC Overheating
Hi guys, I live in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro and it has been very hot lately, even considering it is winter here. When I open any 3D game on steam, I can play it for 5-30 minutes and suddenly, my computer turns off. I've been searching for sollutions, and I thought about getting a fan, to try and cool my desk. Does it work? Have any of you had this problem before? I checked the temperatures of my computer, and it is getting too hot. I am using Razer Cortex as well, but it keeps happening.

My specs:

AMD A8-4500M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 7640G
3.6 GB
Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10240), 64-bit

According to System Requirements Labs, I had the minimum specs needed to run these games:
Batman: Arkham City
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Shift 2 Unleashed.

Please, help!

If you have free slots in your case for 120 mm fans then add some more.
Configuration would be back and top slots as exhaust, front and sidepanel slots as intake.
Most likely you have stock cooler on that CPU, if you have room for 160 mm high heatsink in your case then you could get Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler.

It's quite cheap and rubbish PC though, probably some cheap case with no fan slots and only one fan.

Sounds like it's a laptop. Have you thought about getting a cooling pad?

Is it worth buying one? Does it really have effect upon heating?

It is a laptop right? How old is it

Yes, it's a laptop. It was made in 2012, but I use it since the January of the past year. I can run Battlefield 3 in Medium with no lag and no issues, but any other games cause this issue.

Reason I asked is that it's probably dusty inside, meaning it's CPU heatsink fins are clogged up with dust. If you were to look at "laptop heatsink" on google, you'll see exactly what I mean.

You don't need to take the laptop apart to fix it though. Instead, purchase a can of compressed air, and spray short bursts of air at all the laptop cooling vents. This will clear the heatsink fins of any dust that has built up.

If you try that and it still overheats, then a cooling pad should reduce temperatures a bit. However I would try cleaning the cooling system first as dust is most likely your problem.

If it's laptop then not much you can do then getting the cooling pad.
And if it's that old it's probably in need of some cleaning, maybe full of dust inside and that's why it overheats.
Cheap laptop for gaming in the climate like Brazil is not really good idea overall, you would want to build decent desktop with quality case and decent amount of fans.

Get headphones.

Get a fan.

Point the fan at the laptop.

Cools your hands and laptop at the same time.
