Xbox 360 controller connection issues(May be the connector)(Windows 10)

So as you can see my Xbox controller didn't come with a wire originally, we had this adapter from a while back(a few years probably). Whenever I try and plug this into my computer it will sense the initial USB plugging, and in the device manager it will sense it as a Xbox 360 Peripheral, with the controller itself being named "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller via Play and Charge Kit". When it is plugged in it just sits there blinking, I also have tried multiple USB ports attached to my computer, not sure if any are powered but I would assume so, taken this a fairly modern PC. If anyone has any ways to check what my USB ports are that would be appreciated. Thanks to anyone who replies, it means a whole lot!

Edit: Forgot to mention, also using Windows 10

Make sure it's plugged into the USB 2.0 ports, I've used a lot of gamepads and you can sometimes have connection issues with USB 3.0 ports. It's rather difficult to determine if the cable or connectors are damaged. If your controller connects and is recognized by the PC that likely means it isn't a physical issue.

Do you experience connection issues on all games or just some?

Did you upgrade to Windows 10 or do a fresh reinstall?

*EDIT Keep in mind I have never owned a play and charge kit, but have had issues with controllers.

Play and charge kits don't work like that. All they do is carry power from the PC to the controller to charge it - they don't carry any data the other way. You need a wireless receiver to connect that to a PC - you can find them easily enough on Amazon and eBay.

hmm so that wireless reciever, does that work with Windows 10 you think?

Also, would it be possible to get a driver that can use this adapter for gaming?(The games I'm looking to play with this are Rocket league and the Binding of isaac:Rebirth)

I upgraded to windows 10, but I also had the same probem with Windows 10 I have not seen any differences between the operating systems.

My connections on games are pretty solid for the most part, I do work off Wi-Fi at the moment though.

An official MS one should be OK as MS should have updated its drivers if necessary. There are cheaper third party ones but you'd need to do a bit of research to make sure they'd work.

First of all, what does MS mean?

Secondly, I see this controller.

Would this work with Windows 10? And do you think it would work at all for me?

Erm, MS = MicroSoft. That's a standard wired XBox 360 controller... I use one myself on Windows 8.1 so it'll work fine with Windows 10.

Oh cool I'll look into it. Also that reciever for $15, would that just work kind of like how an Xbox controller can connect to an Xbox just by pressing the main button on the controller?

Edit: Found one

This look like it would work? It's a really nice price.

I don't own a wireless receiver myself but that's my understanding of it too. Don't waste your money on that cheap knock-off controller though - if you look at its item specs you'll see that it doesn't support either Windows 8 or 10.

I get the feeling this guy is referring to the XBox One controllers that use standard micro-USB cables.

yea if already have Xbox360 Wireless Controller; just get the USB Wireless Receiver > http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FAS1WDG

Microsoft updated the Drivers related to "360" and "One" hardware; which u can get from Windows Updates after connecting such device(s).
the wired 360 controllers are easy to replace the cables too
take it apart, unsolder the cable, solder on a usb extension or old mouse cable

OP has a 360 Wireless Controller though.
ok, what reciever does he have?
off brand recievers have driver issues
ms branded reciever always works

the play and charge kit for 360 is only to charge the controller, you sill need a wireless 360 reciever

OP has 360 Wireless Controller + 360 Play&Charge Kit

Yea not going to work like that; as that wired kit does not allow a 360 controller to function on PC via wire. You need a MS 360 USB Wireless Receiver.
