The GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard supports mainly AM3 socket cpu's and 3 specific AM3+ socket cpu's. Always check the manufacturer's website and not wikipedia. :p

Stopped being lazy for 10 min and checked revision on the MB sticker. Its 2.1
Now the question is if its worth to upgrade to FX-4350 or FX-6350 from Phenom II X4 965 3.4ghz oveclocked to 3.8 very stable
Get a new AMD mb or try Intel
http://wccftech.com/intel-launches-core-i7-6700k-core-i5-6600k-unlocked-skylake-cpus-5th-august-skylakes-platform-roadmap-detailed/
for fx4-8 you should get a 970-990 board
for fx9 you need a 970-990 board capable of 220w cpus, with a 8+2 or better vrm config with heatsinks
http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database
Thank you all for the interest in helping though.
Could not find a board matching: "970-990 board capable of 220w cpus"
Did some searches and it seems a 1000w is recommended. Really dont want to buy a new one. I have a 650w now. If its cooling the consern is I have one of those high tower cpu coolers with 2 fans.
What I am considering now:
AMD
Black Edition AMD FX 9590 / 4.7 GHz prosessor
GA-990FXA-UD3
Intel
GA-Z97X-Gaming 5
Core i7 4790K / 4 GHz prosessor
Slight price difference here. Not had Intel for many years. But read its the thing for gaming.
As for Skylake i5-6500K any idea what the price point is?
"As far as the Intel Core i5 6500 goes, the price listed is $179 USD."
http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-s-lineup-list-price-i7-6700k-313-i5-6600k-225/
And yeah the i7 4790K performs way better than the FX 9590.

2nd gen or later i5 still beats fx8-9 for games

What do you know about the GPU I have btw? You are right on it needing upgrade as well though

gtx 970 or r9 290+ would be a nice improvement
But to be honest I am pretty happy with the GTX 760 and even this Phenom II 965. I was really just gonna buy more ram lol
