Arctic MX-4 Or GELID GC-Extreme?
Which TIM would be better?

My plan is to replace the thermal paste on my laptop next time I clean the fan, as well as buy a new heatsink and fan for my Intel Core 2 Quad.

So based on user experience, which is better at its job?

I don't care that thermal paste isn't the main thing to consider when cooling a CPU.

This thread has nothing to do with cooling other then which paste transfers heat better then the other.

Shouldn't need a new heatsink; just the CPU/GPU fan if it is having issues.
MX-4 or Silver 5; either one is very good.

The heatsink is old and a solid aluminum one. I would like to get a copper core with aluminum fins heatsink. Also wanna find something that can handle a Delta fan on it possibly.

Artic Silver 5 is good but im looking to go the distance and squeeze out as much heat dissapation as possible. I'm not overclocking either, just want a cool running system.

Also i'm looking into non conductive TIM. No reason in particular other then its the new thing going on with TIM.

Water cooling is not something I'm considering in anyway

There isn't much difference between thermal compounds. 2-3°C at best. Pick your poison and you'll be fine.

Yes I know.
So which compound has more heat dissapation?

I asked which was better at what it does, not for someone to tell me to use my free will.

Thermal Pastes make very little difference. MX4 is just as good as more expensive ones. Why pay more.

It will ultimately come down to your heatsink, fans, overall cooling and airflow; even ambient room temp you run the system in. Changing from one thermal paste to another isn't gonna work magic.

Ok say we have a perfect ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ room. It's always 70°F. With a portable a/c unit with the vent blowing directly on intakes on the PC case.
The Case is a CM HAF 912[www.newegg.com] with as many fans crammed in it as possible.
The heatsink and fan is a CM V8 GTS[www.newegg.com]

Now that we have that out of the way, what TIM will REDUCE temps the most?

Thank you. It shows the GELID GC-Extreme is the top preformer. Gonna get me some.
