Help with desktop icons
Hello. First of all, if this is not the right area to post this, forgive me. However, I am having trouble with the desktop icons for games.

Due to a complication with my desktop and some other stuff my computer did, I had to delete almost every icon on my desktop, including steam icons. Now, whenever i try to place a desktop icon down, the result is an icon appearing with a picture of a globe as the shortcut image. The icon still works and takes me to the game, but it's real annoying. Anyone know how to fix this? Again, sorry if this question has already been asked/answered.

I am running Windows 8.1, and have tried a few things. I can not get a fix to work, and could not find a reliable answer online. If I could get any help at all, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean the Steam icon shows up as a globe or the icons of your various steam games? O_o

Sorry, the steam games are appearing as a globe, not the steam shortcut itself.

Weird. Maybe try reinstalling steam and then manually creating desktop shortcuts for your steam games by right clicking them in your library and then click create desktop shortcut.

When you right click on one of the icons and click properties and then go to the web document tab and then look at url: does it say something like this? ==> "steam://rungameid/209660" (for example this is call of duty advanced warfare mutiplayer).

Yeah, it does, and now that I'm seeing it, when I actually click properties, the actual icon shown is the actual picture. I'm not sure why it won't show up on the desktop.

Make sure the default program to open those game icons when you double click them is steam and not your browser or something.

That's what it's supposed to be, an Internet Shortcut (.url) file. I don't know what you did to your desktop icons lol. Can you maybe upload a screenshot via imgur?

Ok, I thought i had t=realized the problem, but no. So apparently, some of the desktop icons work, after creating ones going further down the list. I was confused at first, but then I realized that the first row of games did not have changed names. I have NO idea why that would change anything now, but i've done some deleting. I'm going to try to reboot my computer, and if it isn't fixed I'll upload a screenshot.

Didn't work, going to upload right now. Also, desktop rearranged itself again, so I may also have a Trojan on it. Cool.

It looks like one of the standard icons that can be found in the %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll folder.
Maybe try right clicking the icon go to properties > web document tab > click change icon > browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\the binding of isaac rebirth and try finding the icon and setting it manually.

Otherwise when in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\the binding of isaac rebirth folder right click the "binding of isaac rebirth.exe" file and click create desktop shortcut and see if it still shows up as a globe.

Yep, it still shows up as a globe. I have no idea why this is happening.

That is, it still shows as a globe when a shortcut is made manually with the .exe

The only thing I ever did was change .html files to load through chrome, but after doing so I managed to set it back. I understand why theres only a few that have this problem, however I don't understand why the problem is even happening. Either way, I think I'm screwed over and I'm gonna need to do a pc wipe. Thanks for your help anyway.
