Displayport mini to Displayport suddenly stopped working
Any tech experts who can help me? I have an external 144hz BenQ XL2430T monitor connected to my GT72 2QE-648NL laptop through a displayport mini -> displayport cable. But since this morning it stopped working. My nVidia control panel shows the displayport connection... but I can't tick the box to activate it. Or sometimes it's briefly ticked for 2/3 seconds and then un-ticks itself. HDMI works fine, but since I use a 144hz monitor, displayport is way better. Could the cable be the defect? Or the port? Or is there a software solution to this? Please help! :(

Run your first two fingers and thumb with just a slight curve all the way up the length of the cable while it's connected. Does it break/cut at any point? Most likely defective, by the way it sounds (suddenly stops working with no driver updates or anything, briefly works, others work fine, etc - all point to it).

Your cheapest option would be a replacement cable, hopefully it's just that. Make sure it's DisplayPort version 1.3 or better cable.

Thanks for the reply! I tried the cable thing, but it doesn't really break the connection... so I am still not 100% sure it's the cable, but it almost just has to be. So I did order a new one, just to be sure. Will post if a new cable fixed it.
OK, so I bought the new cable... didn't work. Then I uninstalled and reïnstalled my graphics drivers... didn't work. Then I unplugged all cables of my monitor, completely disconnected it from my PC and reconnected everything... and it worked! So apparently, something hardware-related was confused about the cables connected to my PC, or maybe some kind of weird signal interruption, I don't know. I do know I spend more money on cables than I should.. wish I tried it sooner.. but i guess getting desperate and trying EVERYTHING helps sometimes XD.
When you mention cable(s)... how many cables are you actually using?

You have the plug for power and just one cable to connect graphics card to monitor right?

ps: I had a friend's brother once attempting to connect multiple cables (DVI and a HDMI) to the same monitor, it causes overheating and other issues. Just making sure you're not doing something like that. You only need one DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort.

Anyways, glad you got it working, back to gaming!

I don't think I had multiple display cables connected to my monitor when it flipped out that morning. But yeah, now everything works so I'm really happy. Was kind of afraid my display port on the monitor was broken or maybe something shortcircuited.. thankfully it's all good now. Thanks for the help yesterday! Back to gaming indeed :)
