The big GPU/Tech Rumours thread - Nvidia/AMD/Others - Is it worth to invest now? what news are here now? Feel free to debate
This thread has evolved a alot and has now become a New Runours on tech thread - It is primarily focused on GPU´s and it should stay that way. I will update the thread, whenever we have new information about newer GPU´s releasing. Feel free to debate some of the more catchy tech rumours as well.

I have reserved this field in our thread starter to keep current debates up and new information.
Atm.

2024/2025

Here are the official announcements
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k82RwXqZHY8&t=1496s
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/50-series/
------

Varous information about the new 5000 series.

We have started to see more information about the new Nvidia Blackwell GPU´s (5000´s series)

Here is a leak, not very interesting tbh.

2023

We debate the 4000 series released and the ones that will release, a long with the rumours about the 5000 series, that is showcased to be the biggest leap in GPU history performance wise (like everytime ofc)

So I figured we should have a thread about the new RTX 3xxx series, that is soon to release.
What is your feeling about it? Do you think some of the rumours are true? Are you upgrading?

The flagship seems to be a 3090 (I like them going back to the x90 tier)
https://videocardz.com/newz/micron-confirms-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-gets-21gbps-gddr6x-memory

Personally I will not upgrade yet and even if I had to (I do not) I would still wait for prices to go down, early adoption is expenssive and often not worth it. But I am interested about what rumours might be true.

Some of the earlier rumours have suggested even higher GB numbers (from 16 and up) and performance claims have been all from 10-50% in effective speed and up to 60% in ray tracing inprovement.

I think it will be a 10-15% max in effective speed on each tier, but I do think we will see significant increases in the Ray Tracing spectrum.

AMD - Big Navi

It will be interesting to see what AMD brings to the table. Personally I think they will go for the mid tier market and if they succeed then, we might see battles for the top tier next generation.

Interesting stats about Big Navi

It seems like all will ship with atleast 16 GB, if that is true, that is surprising tbh.
Rumours talk about 2.4GHz clock on the Navi 21 XT. I think it will be pretty exciting to watch. We will know more in a week, once it gets revealed.

It seems that Nvidia is releasing a new series for miners and are changing the 3060, that will release on 25 of feb. Links below.

That is our benchmark thread. You are still free to debate hardware related stuff and new builds here ofc.

Yeah I might get a 7800 XT and one of those new 2x24GB kits. Launch DDR5 has become a stain on my system.

NVIDIA is worth way more than that, Jensen can easily fund multiple new architectures himself and still be making profit. That just isn't his plan, because he's more concerned in making NVIDIA more like Apple.

I was trying to arrive at the same point! Gaming is no longer a priority and struggles to be self sustaining.
NVIDIA hardly even has to try either because AMD has never really pushed them, just met their performance at best in affordable tiers. Video game development isn't pushing for higher end hardware either because devs can't afford to cater only to high end users, and if most people are still using 1060 level GPUs, well... nothing's going to change for awhile until all of those cards fail.

Machine learning is a sub-component of artificial intelligence, which is supposed to be a broader more encompassing sort of blanket term. But that's kind of nit-picking.

As far as I'm concerned, The Verge is a decent source and if they had some rocky points in their career, they picked themselves up and kept going. But anyway...

I actually wonder if NV is going to hook up with Elon Musk's Neura-Link at some point. Then, there's absolutely no catching up as potentially entire populations can subscribe to something like that.

But that's a doomsday kind of thing. :tf2scream:

AMD will not bring anything new to the table, for sure.
They NEVER did.

All they can do is just copy NVIDIA's trail, and bring the SAME performance but for 20% cheaper, with weaker RT and DLSS.
Never is a strong word so you're either very young or willfully being ignorant.

If you're going to declare nVidia the trailblazer then you're acknowledging the slow price for performance uplift trend is being set by them first and foremost, and AMD is just copying it.
Which, I agree with, but glad to see you admit it for once.

Nvidia need to put them billions into frame generation tech for dx 9/10/11/12 if possible. AMD owners will be able to soon have FSR 3 frame gen in any dx11 or dx12 game.

In Q1 24 it will be part of AMD Hyper RX.
Won't FSR 3 also supposedly work on older nVidia GPUs as well? I don't think it will only work with AMD. Current FSR is also like this and I've been reading FSR should be as well.

Yeah... Reference 7800 XT and GSKILL 7200 CL36 1.35v kit (2x24GB), s-s-sold.

My impression is that FSR3 will heavily leverage asynchronous compute to create the (software-based) frame generation (in addition to the usual upscaling stuff FSR does). That probably makes it effective back to Nvidia's 10xx series and Radeon's GCN (probably GCN4). And Intel Arc o/c

The Radeon driver-level frame generation that can apply frame-gen to ALL DX11 and DX12 games (called AMD Fluid Motion Frames aka AFMF) will afaik only be available for RDNA3 (and newer obv) gpus.

I apologize if it's a weird question, but will FSR 3 and its Frame Gen work on my GTX 1660 Ti laptop? I once saw a picture saying that RTX 20XX and above support FSR 3 Frame Gen, while just the upscaler itself supports GTX 10XX and above. My GTX 1660 Ti laptop is a Turing GPU just like the RTX 20XX GPUs, but I still don't know if it'll work.

Well, I hope they're going to bring these technologies to Cyberpunk 2077, which I have, and then I'll see it for myself.

Anti-Lag+ certainly not because they specifically stated it will require RDNA 3 hardware. For the rest they do recommend newer cards but mention an RX 590 or 10 series card as minimum, albeit not recommended.

Anti-Lag+ could be replaced with NVIDIA's own implementation, but we'll see

It will but im interested in the tech that applies it to any DX 10/11 game. I think that is AMD only? But the rest is open source.

I really want my back log able to use frame gen tech, Its literally perfect for filling in tje missing frames on my 175hz Ultrawide. I aim for 120.00 baseline then would turn on DLSS 3.0.

The fake frames thing is disturbing. They ought to offer a card with all the AI and software learning BS stripped out for minus whatever they value their fake stuff BS. Let's see the actual value of the smoke and mirrors, from both companies.

It would also have a side effect of instant ID who maxes their games the honorable way as well 😐
ZAP 26 sierpnia 2023 o 11:09
And they can go ahead and strip the "RT Cores" out. It's like having extra crap on your card to run a Hairworks game. Let's see how much their finest core (for gaming) with absolutely no AI or RT costs.
