The big GPU/Tech Rumours thread - Nvidia/AMD/Others - Is it worth to invest now? what news are here now? Feel free to debate
This thread has evolved a alot and has now become a New Runours on tech thread - It is primarily focused on GPU´s and it should stay that way. I will update the thread, whenever we have new information about newer GPU´s releasing. Feel free to debate some of the more catchy tech rumours as well.

I have reserved this field in our thread starter to keep current debates up and new information.
Atm.

2024/2025

Here are the official announcements

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/50-series/
------

Varous information about the new 5000 series.

We have started to see more information about the new Nvidia Blackwell GPU´s (5000´s series)

Here is a leak, not very interesting tbh.

2023

We debate the 4000 series released and the ones that will release, a long with the rumours about the 5000 series, that is showcased to be the biggest leap in GPU history performance wise (like everytime ofc)

So I figured we should have a thread about the new RTX 3xxx series, that is soon to release.
What is your feeling about it? Do you think some of the rumours are true? Are you upgrading?

The flagship seems to be a 3090 (I like them going back to the x90 tier)
https://videocardz.com/newz/micron-confirms-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-gets-21gbps-gddr6x-memory

Personally I will not upgrade yet and even if I had to (I do not) I would still wait for prices to go down, early adoption is expenssive and often not worth it. But I am interested about what rumours might be true.

Some of the earlier rumours have suggested even higher GB numbers (from 16 and up) and performance claims have been all from 10-50% in effective speed and up to 60% in ray tracing inprovement.

I think it will be a 10-15% max in effective speed on each tier, but I do think we will see significant increases in the Ray Tracing spectrum.

AMD - Big Navi

It will be interesting to see what AMD brings to the table. Personally I think they will go for the mid tier market and if they succeed then, we might see battles for the top tier next generation.

Interesting stats about Big Navi

It seems like all will ship with atleast 16 GB, if that is true, that is surprising tbh.
Rumours talk about 2.4GHz clock on the Navi 21 XT. I think it will be pretty exciting to watch. We will know more in a week, once it gets revealed.

It seems that Nvidia is releasing a new series for miners and are changing the 3060, that will release on 25 of feb. Links below.

Do you want to show off your new build or even just your old build. Then you can do so at

That is our benchmark thread. You are still free to debate hardware related stuff and new builds here ofc.

RTX 3080 can run evrytihing at Ultra 1440p and 4k 100+ fps with ray tracing too. We dont need RTX 3090.
BS
Is the 3070 enough for 4K 60 fps ?

Unlikely unless you turn a few things down, based on the 3080 specs and performance it seems likely the 3070 will come in around 10% either side of a 2080ti and the 2080ti can struggle in some games, so, going forward, I'd say you'd want a 3080, which, by specs alone is easily worth the extra 200 bucks.

Depends on how you tweak your settings. But yes if you don´t care about having pointless ultra and in some cases not even very high. (I reckon a high mixture will do what you seek)

But be sure to have a proper CPU, PSU, MB and Ram to compliment your 3070

Well, my specs are just enough for a 3070, don't know about a 3080, maybe some cpu bottleneck? But I don't have a great PSU.

my actual specs

ᴄᴘᴜ: Intel Core i5-9400F
ɢᴘᴜ: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (ZOTAC AMP! Edition)
ʀᴀᴍ: 16GB DDR4-3200 (Crucial Ballistix Sport LT -Gray-)
ᴍᴏʙᴏ: Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X
ᴄᴘᴜ ᴄᴏᴏʟᴇʀ: Corsair Hydro H45
ᴄᴀsᴇ: NZXT S340 "Black"
ᴘsᴜ: Corsair CX600

I have a 4K 60hz monitor now.

From the benchmarks we saw it seems like RTX 3080 runs all games at Ultra/max settings 1440p and 4k 60+ fps and with ray tracing too it is not BS. Why pay 800 more for RTX 3090 whern RTX 3080 runs evryttihn perfecly?

From which tests? What Nvidia showed us? LOL you can't trust what only the hardware makers shares. Remember when AMD tried to show us that a single RX 580 8gb would be running games fine at 4K, LOL... and they still don't have any gpu that can do that.

No. Not near close

What is BS? There is not not even one right now that RTX 3080 cant run at max settings 4k 60 fps.

What FPS you will get in, for example, Metro Exodus at max settings, but without DLSS?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4joKy_OG-o hERE we see it running 1440p Extrem with Ultra ray tracing at 60 fps most of the time except for one scent that it dropepd to 43 fps. With RTX 3090 even at that point it will be 60 fps.

I saw totally different results on another resource:

Metro Exodus, DXR OFF, 3840x2160: 36/55

First number is 1% min. See the difference? Even without raytracing this card cannot provide 60 FPS.
I do not even ask about Quake 2 RTX. Do you realise how low will be FPS in this game?

Of course, Quake 2 isn't most popular game nowadays. But there are a lit of games from Borderlands 3 to Control where RTX 3080 csn not provide sustained 60 FPS at 4k.

3070 16GB and 3080 20GB

https://www.techspot.com/amp/news/86811-gigabyte-accidentally-reveals-rtx-3070-16gb-rtx-3080.html
I'm sure these models will be popular with people who prefer big numbers to real needs
Read about that the other day, I expect it to be a very small clock bump (pointless given gpu boost 3) and the memory bump to counter AMD's 16GB offering, even though nothing actually needs close to that, if this was just the 3080, I'd think we'd get a performance boost just shy of the 3090, but, with the 3070 as well, that doesn't make any sense as it would need to sit below the 3080 performance wise, but with more memory.

Although, for the first time in a long while, it seems both top models share the same 102 chip, normally the 80 has the 103 and the ti/titan has the 102.

Edit.
So who knows, maybe they will unlock a few more cuda cores to boot, might bite me in the bum buying a 3090, but, oh well, I've made peace with paying £1400 again.
