The big GPU/Tech Rumours thread - Nvidia/AMD/Others - Is it worth to invest now? what news are here now? Feel free to debate
This thread has evolved a alot and has now become a New Runours on tech thread - It is primarily focused on GPU´s and it should stay that way. I will update the thread, whenever we have new information about newer GPU´s releasing. Feel free to debate some of the more catchy tech rumours as well.

I have reserved this field in our thread starter to keep current debates up and new information.
Atm.

2024/2025

Here are the official announcements
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k82RwXqZHY8&t=1496s
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/50-series/
------

Varous information about the new 5000 series.
https://www.techradar.com/computing/gpu/nvidia-unveils-new-geforce-rtx-5090-rtx-5080-rtx-5070-ti-and-rtx-5070-graphics-cards-at-ces-2025

We have started to see more information about the new Nvidia Blackwell GPU´s (5000´s series)

Here is a leak, not very interesting tbh.
https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia/geforce-rtx-5000-specs-boring-leak
https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-blackwell/

2023

We debate the 4000 series released and the ones that will release, a long with the rumours about the 5000 series, that is showcased to be the biggest leap in GPU history performance wise (like everytime ofc)

https://wccftech.com/nvidia-preps-mass-production-two-ad104-ada-gpus-possibly-geforce-rtx-4070-rtx-4060-ti/amp/

So I figured we should have a thread about the new RTX 3xxx series, that is soon to release.
What is your feeling about it? Do you think some of the rumours are true? Are you upgrading?

The flagship seems to be a 3090 (I like them going back to the x90 tier)
https://videocardz.com/newz/micron-confirms-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-gets-21gbps-gddr6x-memory

Personally I will not upgrade yet and even if I had to (I do not) I would still wait for prices to go down, early adoption is expenssive and often not worth it. But I am interested about what rumours might be true.

Some of the earlier rumours have suggested even higher GB numbers (from 16 and up) and performance claims have been all from 10-50% in effective speed and up to 60% in ray tracing inprovement.

I think it will be a 10-15% max in effective speed on each tier, but I do think we will see significant increases in the Ray Tracing spectrum.

AMD - Big Navi

It will be interesting to see what AMD brings to the table. Personally I think they will go for the mid tier market and if they succeed then, we might see battles for the top tier next generation.

Interesting stats about Big Navi

It seems like all will ship with atleast 16 GB, if that is true, that is surprising tbh.
Rumours talk about 2.4GHz clock on the Navi 21 XT. I think it will be pretty exciting to watch. We will know more in a week, once it gets revealed.

It seems that Nvidia is releasing a new series for miners and are changing the 3060, that will release on 25 of feb. Links below.

Do you want to show off your new build or even just your old build. Then you can do so at

That is our benchmark thread. You are still free to debate hardware related stuff and new builds here ofc.

well I have some bad news, my 1070 sadly stopped giving video signal so I'm having to replace it. Might sell it as parts.

I just ordered a 1080 that'll probably end up reselling or using for mining later on.

gonna have to get used to skylake intergrated graphics for like 2 weeks, can't play much with that.
Then now you dont have choice than to buy a RTX 3070 at this crazy prices and wait for as long as it takes to arrive. How many years you had it? 5? Dont waste your money on a 1080 it is a 2016 card 5 years old now. Get a RTX 3070 and any other RTX 3000 card as they are all better than gtx 1080. Dont waste your money on 5 years old tech! If my GTX 970 also dies before i find a RTX 3000 then i will order a RTX 3080TI and wait for it to arrive even if itakes many weeks ro months.

You could try the free membership tier of Geforce Now game streaming if you're not a heavy gamer? Should keep you going for a few short weeks.

Yeah I'm not taking advice from someone who gloats about 30fps on a card from forever ago

Probably gonna mine the costs back and use it as a main gaming gpu.

As a heads up, the 1080 won't really get you much of anything mining, you really need atleast a 1080ti, but even then it's power hungry for only 45MH/s (with a program called ethlargement find it on github it doubles the gas rate of 10 series) should get around £80-90 a month though.

Though with the new LHR cards due very soon, you could wait abd try and snag one of them at a lower price potentially.

eh I'll probably get a 1080ti after another month of work, though I might also eye the 3060 with a dummy plug It's probably gonna be whatever is cheapest on ebay. I might look at the LHR cards once I'm in the market for a dedicated miner. Real shame I can't cancel the order now.

Dont be afraid of looking at good AMD alternatives either. If you dont care much for RT and just want hashrate and raw FPS things like the Vega 64 (sits between 1080 and 1080ti) or the 5700xt or 6xxx are all great options. Though make sure you have the PSU to cope with the like of a Vega or R-VII as they are quite power hungry.

well it's kinda too late, I got a 2080 for real cheap (one of the DP are not working and it's got physical damage though still works) and really I can't refund anymore or at least I don't think so, kinda new to ordering on ebay.

Yeah, many neglect to consider the AMD alternatives like a VEGA64 or 5600XT as temp cards to tide one over. I have a PC VEGA64 Red Devil in my 2nd rig and it's still pretty decent for most games at Med-max setting depending on the game engine, on a 3440x1440 monitor to boot.

I also have a Leadtek GTX 1080 Hurricane OC in my HTPC, hooked up to a 4K TV, needless to say, I'd have to tone down settings for many modern games to run them smoothly enough. But for older games, max graphics setting is still doable.

I heard that mining wise, AMD's latest GPUs, the RX 6800 is the best mining card since the high end cards all have the same bandwidth and the same memory, and Etherium largely depends on the bandwidth.

Also the Chinese Government banned Crypto, dunno how that will affect mining in the long run

how much did you paid for it? test some games and tell us how much better they run comared to gtx 1080 at ultra 1440p and 4k. You got a 2 + years old card as 2080 was reelasedd on September 2020. As i said you should had got a rtx 3070 or better because these are the current high end cards and that what people that are gamers like us buy at this time when someones change the graphics card. But compared to gtx 1080 rtx2 080 will be a big upgrade and you will also have ray tracing even if it cant run it at ultra 1440p in all games becuase for that you need rtx 3070 or better

689$ which was fine, but again I'm not taking advice from an egomaniac troll.
