The big GPU/Tech Rumours thread - Nvidia/AMD/Others - Is it worth to invest now? what news are here now? Feel free to debate
This thread has evolved a alot and has now become a New Runours on tech thread - It is primarily focused on GPU´s and it should stay that way. I will update the thread, whenever we have new information about newer GPU´s releasing. Feel free to debate some of the more catchy tech rumours as well.

I have reserved this field in our thread starter to keep current debates up and new information.
Atm.

2024/2025

Here are the official announcements
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k82RwXqZHY8&t=1496s
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/50-series/
------

Varous information about the new 5000 series.

We have started to see more information about the new Nvidia Blackwell GPU´s (5000´s series)

Here is a leak, not very interesting tbh.

2023

We debate the 4000 series released and the ones that will release, a long with the rumours about the 5000 series, that is showcased to be the biggest leap in GPU history performance wise (like everytime ofc)

So I figured we should have a thread about the new RTX 3xxx series, that is soon to release.
What is your feeling about it? Do you think some of the rumours are true? Are you upgrading?

The flagship seems to be a 3090 (I like them going back to the x90 tier)
https://videocardz.com/newz/micron-confirms-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-gets-21gbps-gddr6x-memory

Personally I will not upgrade yet and even if I had to (I do not) I would still wait for prices to go down, early adoption is expenssive and often not worth it. But I am interested about what rumours might be true.

Some of the earlier rumours have suggested even higher GB numbers (from 16 and up) and performance claims have been all from 10-50% in effective speed and up to 60% in ray tracing inprovement.

I think it will be a 10-15% max in effective speed on each tier, but I do think we will see significant increases in the Ray Tracing spectrum.

AMD - Big Navi

It will be interesting to see what AMD brings to the table. Personally I think they will go for the mid tier market and if they succeed then, we might see battles for the top tier next generation.

Interesting stats about Big Navi

It seems like all will ship with atleast 16 GB, if that is true, that is surprising tbh.
Rumours talk about 2.4GHz clock on the Navi 21 XT. I think it will be pretty exciting to watch. We will know more in a week, once it gets revealed.

It seems that Nvidia is releasing a new series for miners and are changing the 3060, that will release on 25 of feb. Links below.

Do you want to show off your new build or even just your old build. Then you can do so at

That is our benchmark thread. You are still free to debate hardware related stuff and new builds here ofc.

Nvidia use 8nm from Samsung. AMD uses the 7nm from TMSC.
^
Not sure where he got his information but NVIDIA is using Samsung's 8nm node.

Example: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3090.c3622

There was a rumour started not long after launch of 3000 series that Nvidia would refresh their line up and switch to TSMC 7nm at some point possibly due to competition from AMD. Recently we have news that an Nvidia refresh is coming soon but the 7nm thing hasn't been mentioned again. Apparently Nvidia have a contract with TSMC for future orders of a more advanced 5nm tech?

I have heard the claim that AMD have recently fulfilled a major contract obligation to Sony and Microsoft to supply them with APU dies for the consoles. Now AMD have more silicon wafers for themselves to produce more of their own CPUs and GPUs. I don't know how it works whether the consoles and CPUs use the same wafers.
Monk 2 MAY 2021 a las 2:33 a. m.
I was just using TSMC as an indicator for supply as they just had their investors call, I doubt any other fabs are in a much better situation.

They really can't be, because silicon production is way too behind for anyone to ever have enough for the typical rate at which they use it in producing their products

Nice Build DarkStar, just finished my own build recently, i started to build at 3080 launch, just got my 5900x a couple week ago to finish it, well worth the wait, i for one finally feel i can push 1440p at decent Framerates with this Gen, my 1080p monitor is just hanging above my nice new Samsung Odyssey feeling lost and forgotten, How you finding it and what Res you pushing.

My monster PC is doing great:winter2019joyfultearsyul:
mine will be a bigger monster when i get RTX 3080 and this can happen at any day as i continue my search on shops for it.

Shredder i am surprised your Pc even boots, let alone run a 3080, think before you have a pop at someone els build, you would have to spend an awful lot of money to match those specs.

Not with your current CPU and RAM, it won't be.
we will see about that when i have the rtx 3080 and start playing with it how much faster it will run on max settings 1440p and max ray tracing. Now i played the Resident evil village demo which is also running maxed 1440p with more than 40 fps while it is a new AAA game. But Capcom games are known for their very good optimization .

If your goal is still only 60 FPS, then sure, but you won't get 144 FPS in heavily CPU demanding titles. Even if it were possible with a better GPU, you would NEVER get anywhere near 144 frames in Cyberpunk because I have a 3900X and I'm being CPU bottlenecked to ♥♥♥♥ in that game. The 3900X is a lot more powerful than the 1700X, so have fun with a horrible bottleneck.

EDIT: My frames in Cyberpunk with a 3900X and 2080 Ti on an edited Ultra preset (and lowering settings doesn't even help much) at 1080p AND 1440p are usually between 60 and 80. With a 1700X, you can basically expect 45-60 at best. That's without RT settings.

That was interesting. Thanks.

I'm also interested in knowing more about the actual fabrication process and how it is automated and integrated into the facility in a cost effective way. I'm also interested in the process of how the raw materials become an actual product. Though that would possibly be off topic.

Anyhow a video for anyone interested

A shift in the proposed (paper) launch date for the rtx 3080ti, it seems. Third week in May, supposedly. Some of the comments that follow mirror my own, namely, that general product availability will be dubious.

Thought I'd share, if anyone's after a 6900XT scan still has some left, https://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/gpu-amd-gaming/amd-radeon-rx-6900-xt-pcie-40-graphics-cards not cheap at £1800, but, atleast it's available.

There's another 2 models of the 6900 XT available today on scan. New stock in a space of 2 weeks though still very expensive.

And I'd also thought I'd mention overclockers.co.uk have the 5900X in stock for a special offer £499 today.

I think the 3080 ti to is just going to be detuned 3090s with less memory. I'm sure it'll ship with the cut to mining hashrate even though that can be easily bypassed.

They have aparantly completely reworked it so that won't be possible (initially and damn etherium has hit £2300!), but, I'm expecting it to be closer to a 3080 with extra vram than a 3090 with less, seeing as originally they are all au102 chips it makes more sense as 3090 silicon is supposed to be hard to get, which I suspect is why the 3080 is on the same base chip.

Though we now also have raytracing cores they can cut back

I'd imagine miners will find a way around it.

Probably, though, most large scale miners want 3060/ti's as they are wayyyy more efficient, like 1/3rd the power 1/5 the cost and still have half the hashrate of the 3090!
