Can I run VR games with my laptop?
Hello guys, I have some doubts regarding the possibility of buy a VR set (specifically one of the Oculus Sets)

[SPECS]
I have a good Laptop (HP Pavilion Power cb series) with (I think) good specs, specifically:

- Intel I7 7700 HQ 2.8 GHz
- 16 GB Ram
- GeForce GTX 1050 with 4GB GDDR5 Dedicated Ram

[HTC VIVE TEST]
I have done the HTC Vive test test and it says that for my graphic card:
"This Graphic card may not work well with Vive"

But I am more interested with Oculus head sets, as said before

[STEAM VR TEST]
I have also done the Steam VR test, but it keeps running the test on my integrated GPU, outputting expected results for such low quality video card

[OCULUS TEST]
For the Oculus I am not able to perform any test, because the tool is no longer avaiable

[HDMI CONCERNS]
I have also seen that I need to make sure that my HDMI port is connected to the dedicated GPU. But I don't know how to do that

[CONCLUSIONS]
For the oculus I have seen that I meets the minimum requirements, but because I don't want to waste money, I am asking here if there are any other things that I should consider before buying it

Thank you guys for your time in advance!

It's not even a 1050 Ti.
To be frank with you, don't bother.

A 1050 struggles running current games at 60FPS, let alone rendering two separate images larger than FullHD with at least 90+FPS.

No, you're really not going to get a very playable experience out of any 1050 for VR. These days you should be getting at least a 1660 SUPER for VR.

1050 mobile, no
This machine is not powerful enough for the majority of VR titles. You need a pretty beefy PC to have a pleasant VR gaming experience.

Some VR headsets like the Valve Index will not work on your machine since they require a Displayport.

Making sure your monitor is connected to your GPU is something which only applies to desktop computers.

In your Nvidia control panel make sure the Nvidia GPU is set as the preferred graphics processor.
Gpu is much too weak, even for non VR games to run at a solid 1080p/60

Most VR needs to run at approx 1440p @ 90 fps minimum

So on a Laptop you'd need at least a gtx 1070 for that.

Plus many Laptops can't use the Nvidia gpu when using the external HDMI/DP which is something (aside from just the core specs) that users need to know before buying a Laptop if they plan to play their games on an external Display or use VR
