can i replace 1Rx16 Ram with 2Rx8 Ram?

so i bought 4gb 2Rx8 PC3L-12800s.. and i want to replace the 2gb 1Rx16 PC3L-12800s, would it work?, because my laptop (acer z1401 c13a) won't boot up when i put the new ram..., can anyone help, thx

Did you try re-installing the old ram to make sure it still boots properly?

yeah tried that already, still didn't work, it only boot when i use the old ram

Does acer use proprietary ram?

before swapping ram, reset bios to defaults
else it will try to use the old xmp profile on the new ram kit
after installing the new ram, set bios to its xmp profile

Reset bios to defaults with old ram.
Save and exit the bios.
On next post quickly enter the bios again or keep pressing F12 key.
Then power off the system by holding power button in for 3-5 secs.
Disconnect power cord, disconnect battery, press and hold power button for 10 secs to discharge everything. Then swap old ram for new. Please ensure the ram is fully installed. You slide the ram module inside the gold pinned slot on a 45-degree angle and ensure the gold pins go all the way inside, then gently press down on the module until the clips click into place and secure it.
