use MSI Afterburner to set the gpu fans to about 50%~60% (or more)
thats the sign of a bad ground in the case, or poor psu power regulation
if using the front panel connectors for the speakers, then its a ground issue
if using the rear io panel, then look into a new power supply
Anyways, i don't want to use analog audio anyway :)
I reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers cleanly, and vacuumed the case in and out - there was some dust in there. Now the whole thing runs without a hitch. Thanks for the tip about overheating, it made me open up the case and take a look :D
There is still a sound driver installed so you won't be without, but the additional HD drivers that comes with the graphics package is well known to conflict in games.
