12m is about 40ft
may add a litle lag to the controller, due to the signal being converted a few times
I've ran some tests with it (one official MS one and one generic rebrand from China) and the MS ones works flawlessly; and with a single receiver plugged in u can connect up to 4 wireless 360 controllers to it and have them all work at same time, just like on an actual 360 Console.
Stay away from the rebrand/offbranded wireless receivers; they are complete junk and what usually occurs is it dropped/resetting it's wireless signal, making use of controllers pointless, as the game will keep pausing, saying "please reconnect your controller, etc" and not all games do that, but a game like "Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition" does do this. Course I'd prefer it to do that then say other games like "Watch_Dogs" where if the controller losses connection, it never says anything as it would just expect u to continue playing with KB+MS.
As far as range goes, 15-30 feet (even through walls) was of no issue with the official receiver. I had MK running; and went to the other end of my home; about 30 feet total since the receiver was about 5-6ft from the other wall; and I was still able to control my character/game just fine, and played like this for test purposes for about 5 mins on 2x 360 Wireless controllers, no problems.
As for USB extenstion cables for Wired controllers, u have to be careful here, even with a powered hub. As extended USB with too long of a cable can result in an iffy connection. I do like the idea of a powered hub though, but given the cable length of wired controller already, I would say that 10-15ft extension max cable should be used. Due to if u were to have the total length of USB cable reach beyond 25-30ft or so, then u will most likely have issues with the hardware dropping in/out or delays in button presses and such.
Thanks, again.
If not, let me know your home country and can link u to an official MS one.
Home country is United States.
But there is a Wireless Controller + Receiver bundle.

If you or others need that receiver separately (for around $10-20), you can find them in stores like GameStop, or online, like Amazon. Just be sure it's a Microsoft one, and not HDE or some generic junk.
