Done both. hopefully when the second option arives. i'll be sorted!
thanks. i'll give it a try
No it will be running cooler at idle because the fans will be running faster. Crucially it will also be cooler under load because the fans will be running faster.
So what advice should I follow?
It will be cooler with Cool & Quiet (which is just an energy-saving-greeny-marketing "feature") because the cpu & case fans will run faster all the time & the cpu will remain cooler than it would with the "feature" on.
The "feature" is wonderful for mums & dads drafting their excel pie-charts & word docs for work or shopping online for baby strollers, but not for hours-on-end of 3D gaming. And that's why gamers fiddle & tweak their machines.
The Hyper212 is a great choice, for a relatively cheap price it can effectively cool basically any CPU on the market.
Though if you have some money at your hand you can go a bit higher and get something from Noctua. Their performance is tremendous, but so is their size.
Also some thermal paste are better as others, you can get some additional 2-3 grades with a better one.
so far, i havent tested any other programs that use all of my 8 cores. my best guess is that when the cpu uses 8 cores, the cpu cooler can't cool it enough, in turn heating the motherboard up too.
i'm hoping this water cooler will help the problem, even if a little bit. if the problem still exists, as in still shutting down. i'll have to buy better quality fans. the ones I have on my case were 5 pounds each.
It'll take 2 minutes, if you don't like it, put it back on Auto again, another 2 minutes.
And a Hyper212 is as good as water for half the price & none of the potential disaster.
I've had cool & quite switched off to no avail.
