overheating issues
had the computer for a year now; build by myself

the problem is. the cpu itself becomes extremely hot, the cpu fan becomes extremely hot and so does the motherboard heat sinks.

the CPU goes up to 90c and the computer shuts down.

specs;

GTX 770 GPU
AMD 8350 CPU
Generic RAM 8GB
ASUS motherboard M5A97 R2.0
PSU mod xtreme pro 600w
Generic cpu fan
Aerocool Strike-X GT PC CASE

I can't see why the issue could be the mobo or cpu. both have not been touched apart from cleaning dust off, which i've been doing regullar.

could it be the pc case not being cool enough for the mainboard?

i have 3 generic psu case fans 120mm, also.

overheats when I use handbreak. also overheated when playing DAYZ and RUST.

thats the one i have. not good enough?
Yeah, that CPU cooler is not good enough. From what I've heard, that cooler only supports cooling up to 90w TDP while your CPU is 125w, meaning that it won't keep the CPU cool enough under higher loads. Go and get a better one or, if you still have it, use the stock cooler that came with your CPU.

The cpu cooler that came with the cpu also caused the cpu to overheat and crash
what are your temps when not using Handbrake or other applications that cause overheating? I would agree about the Arctic CPU cooler, looks almost identical to the stock cooler that came with my FX-6200. I purchased a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo and an extra 120mm fan for a push/pull configuration on the heatsink and my highest temp is 42c(and that's playing Watch Dogs), with my stock cooler my highest temp was 54c.

30-40. it seems when programs use full 8 cores of cpu it switches itself off with so much heat.
Also, my motherboard seems to reach the same temps as cpu. both reach over 80.

could this be poor coolingin my case?

Your case seems to have a sufficient airflow, so I wouldn't worry too much there. How much thermal paste are you applying?
pea size ammount.
*grain of rice to half pea is all you need
mobo and cpu both reaching 80c then pc shuttingg off.
I'd say either your motherboard is defective, or the heatsink+fan you're using is insufficient. I am using the same motherboard as you and have never had an overheating issue. I go with about 5mm worth of thermal paste, so about a pea size.

i've ordered water cooling kit. see if that will fix problem

Your cpu fan is busting it's ass trying to cool your cpu. And from what I could see of your first couple cores you were just sitting idle. I'm feeling more and more that the culprit is your heatsink and fan.

the mobo reaches high temps though.
I'd be willing to bet that the spike in temperature on your mobo is because of the cpu reaching such high temps. My motherboard runs about 10 degrees warmer than my cpu under normal load. From how your average temps look it seems you get similar results, but when you use handbrake it overheats your cpu, and because your cpu is connected to you mobo it transfers some of the heat to it. I'm thinking this because your max temperature of your cpu is more than the max of your mobo. Again, this is just an assumption.
I've bought watercooling. hopefully this will fix the issue. my wortry was reverse. perhaps the mobo is overheating in turn making the cpu overheat too?
Liquid Cooling isn't going to help if u have poor case cooling/airflow.
Which is most likely your issue anyways if temps are reaching as high as you say.
If u aren't outfitting your case with fans, then u aren't doing it right. You can use quiet fans; just ensure u have good airflow all through-out the case, or the CPU cooler won't matter much.

With good enough case cooling; u should be able to stick a Cooler Master Hyper212 heatsink on there and even be able to run it fan-less. That's when u know u have good airflow inside and throughout your case.

Anytime u buy an FX-8 or 9 series CPU; u should buy a better quality aftermarket cooler; the stock AMD cooler is junk.
