Do I need a SATA Right or a SATA Left Cable for my Hard Drive?
Ignore the dust in these pictures, I'm cleaning this desktop out today with can air among other things. Adding new Thermal Paste and some new fans. I want to hook up a second HD and I need an SATA cable. I don't know if this a Right or a Left cable that I need. Here are the pictures. Can anyone tell me what I need?

You need a cable WITHOUT an angle … Exactly like the one in the image plugged into the SATA3 port.

Doesn't matter which SATA ports you use.

Easy thing to say: "Ignore that dust" … Clean it out, NOW!!!

EDIT: In a pinch, you *could* use an angled cable as long as the straight end goes to the motherboard. See how those six ports stack parallel to each other? An angled cable used there would block another port.

I'm cleaning her out right now. She looks a million times better than this morning!
Straight sata for the mobo. Doesn/t matter for the hard drive.

As for which, your MOBO doesn't seem to color them any different, so they're likely all SATA 1.5/3 gb. Doesn't matter then. Any will do.

Newer MOBOs with SATA 6gbs ports will color them differently.
You can plug into any of them. They're all native sata cables.

The ones with two different colors is to indicate the controller they use, whether it's a 3rd party or native from the chipset/cpu. The colors of them don't mean anything, as SATA I,II, III, or SATA Express are written on the motherboard. They're all universal except SATA Express.

A number of manufactuers are color coding the SATA II vs SATA IIIs these days to make it easier for builders to determine which cable goes to their SSD choice. The colors actually do matter. While they do have written indicators, it's not correct to say that the the colors do not mean anytthing.

For instance this board:

Has the SATA III in white and the SATA II in black.

its m-sata for the internal card slot, or e-sata for the external sata ports

colors define the controller they are connected to
if the controller supports raid you will need to use the correct colored ports to raid drives

for the right/left sata cable, iv only seen them with a 90º that ponts down when the cd/odd is mounted correctly
havent seen any with a right/left/up bend
