Scanning and repairing hard drive stuck.
So since my scan on my antivirus Norton was not completed, I read somewhere that the way to fix it was to type a command in the command prompt then reboot the computer. It restarted and it was doing a scan and repair of my hard drive c. It was going fine until it got stuck to 10%. Half an hour later and it's still stuck. I forced shut down the computer but it started it again. Do I need to wait longer or is there a fix that does not involve erasing all data? Also, I'm using windows 8.1. Please hurry I'm panicking right now.

It is also possible your HDD is dying. One of failure symptoms of malfunctioning HDD's is dramatic slow-downs for stuff like scans, formatting, copying, etc.

Leave it for a few hours. Otherwise I'm guessing the controller of the HDD is on it's way out. I just fixed a friends computer with similar issues. I replaced the HDD and it was fine.

norton scans can take a long time if its scanning the entire drive
alot of disk usage and cpu time

to make sure its not a drive issue, use hdtune or another smart table checker, to see if there are any reallocated sectors, or pending sectors

Even if you get any drive errors like fixing sectors and stuff is bad hardware. The good drives give you long term...like years with zero problems. You can't buttercup a problem child. Replace and try again. But that is just me. Every drive I've seen with even one problem is going to bite you again. It's just a matter of time and head aches to boot.

Alright guys now it says "Your PC did not start correctly". There are two options: "Restart" and "Advanced options." Which one should I choose? Also, thanks for your support.
