PC Crashing - Need help!
Hi all, built a new pc back at the start of december, since then I have had frequent crashes on a daily basis. At first I thought it was just while gaming however now it is all the time, as soon as I load up my pc and just go on the internet, it often freezes. I have tried many things including formatting and buying two new hard drives, one ssd and one hdd.

This has not helped me at all, below are a list of my parts, it occurs to me that the pc may be crashing due to incompatible parts, therefore if any of you could be kind enough to tell me if these parts do not work with each other or have any solutions to my crashing I would be greatly appreciative.
Powercool 650w 80+ Dual Psu
MS Windows 7 Home Prem Retail
8GB 2x4G CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3
120m CM Sick RED R4L2R20ARR1
CM ENFORCER SGC-1000-KWN1
MSI 970A-G46 AMD MOBO
AMD FX-8320 8-Core FX Series
2GB MSI GTX760 TwinFrozr OC

If you need any other info please ask and please help out if you can :)

When you say it "freezes" or crash, does it just really freeze? Does it give you an error message? Do you get a BSOD?

The more info we have about your problem, the better we will be able to help you!

Literally it sometimes freezes for a minute or two, everything stops, then it catches up or it will crash completely, keyboard/mouse freeze up and make a buzzing noise and then me having to force restart it.

Could it be the cheap psu?
Norhams Finest 2014 年 5 月 28 日 上午 7:40
it could be the PSU. Make sure all the connections to your motherboard/graphics card are seated properly.
You can also keep the task manager open and see if you notice anything strange beforre or during the freezing (huge cpu spikes/ weird ram issues etc).
You should also get the latest drivers for your graphics card (get them from nvidia's website not the graphics card manufactures site)

reccomend a good psu? i'll look in to purchasing a new one and the thing is the freezes and crashes are so random I can't be looking at task manager all the time and during the freeze, I can't open it due to my mouse and keyboard locking up. :( Got all latest nividia drivers too.

Just leave the task manager running while minimized and then check the graphs on it right after the freezing happens.
Also, as far as PSUs go, I'd say that Corsair is a really good PSU manufacturer.

Seasonic is an excellent brand as well.

It's a very high chance that is the PSU. Powercool is a pretty low-quality brand. All those low quality brands have issues with voltage fluctuations and a unstable 12V rail when PSU is fully loaded, which means random crashes. Not speaking of the fact that the true power is much less as they claim. A 650W cheap brand often delivers even less power as a branded 500W.
Corsair, XFX, Antec, Seasonic, Enermax, BeQuiet! all are great options. Some of their entry models might be not some 5 star ones, but still better as anything from the cheap brands.

This was the psu I got, its a shame I paid 40 quid and its not good enough. :/

3rd Comment in a row, however I believe I may know the problem, my motherboard only supports 1.5V ram and I have 1.65V, could this be the problem?

amd cpus can run 1.65v ram without any problems
intel 1155/1150 builds will not run 4 dimms after using 1.65v ram

avoid msi amd boards for 8core/125w cpus

It does say the motherboard and processor were compatiable and when looking on those sites I don't see there being any conflict between my motherboard (MSI 970A-G46 AMD MOBO) and my processor (AMD FX-8320 8-Core FX Series) unless i'm mistaken, :(

I have see this happen with RAM aswell
_I_ 2014 年 5 月 28 日 下午 3:37
yes it is supported
msi knows of the issues, and has updated bios to stop vrm fires, but has increases throttling

fun fact
on msi 970g45, it says "we strongly adivse aginst running heavy burn in tools on this motherboard"

same vrm setup as the g46
Mystic Monkey 2014 年 5 月 28 日 下午 3:39
Why would you wanna run a burn in tool, just leave the pc running 24/7
_I_ 2014 年 5 月 28 日 下午 3:41
testing to see if its stable is a normal thing to do with a new system

its a good idea to run ibt or prime95 overnight to make sure nothing is going to overheat and kill itself
