Buying an expensive graphics card suggestions?
I am thinking of buying an EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti to upgrade my gaming rig. The card costs over $700 so I want to make sure it's gonna be right. My specs are:

Intel 3770K 3.5 GHz
Asus P8Z77-V mobo
8 GB Corsair ram
Wiin 7 64bit
Corsair SSDs for opsys and games

Currently I have two XFX Core Edition FX-785A-ZNL4 Radeon HD 7850 1GB 256-Bit cards in CrossfireX, but I find them too noisy and games will often lock up, so I want to ditch the Crossfires.

My question is: will this card or one like it up the FPS performance for games like Train Simulator and Tomb Raider plus some of the most recent titles? The card I'm looking at in DirectX 12 compatible, but I've not used an NVidia card before that I liked, always stuck with AMD.

Thanks for any help!

I'm happy with my EVGA GTX780Ti ACX SC Everything runs like a dream. I can run Tomb Raider 2013 with TressFX enabled and have good framerate.

This card is DX11.1 if memory serves.

I want to buy another, but I need another PSU to support it.
I just made this purchase with very similar setup. I have:

3770 3.5ghz
Asus Z77 Sabertooth Mobo
8gb Corsair Dominator
Win 8.1 64 bit

I had Sli 580gtx's. Great cards but don't care for SLI setups. Have had no issues with maxing games at 1920x1080 except Metro Last light. Have to notch down a couple of settings but its minor.

I have the EVGA 780ti SC ACX edition. Well worth the upgrad IMO. Also added a BenQ 27inch 144hrz 1ms respose time monitor. Man the 144hrz makes a HUGE difference for me.
what power supply do you have?
brand/model

if the 2x 7850s in crossfire are drawign too much for the psu, it can cause driver crash/recover

I have a Corsair HX 650 watt. It's pprobably borderline for the power needs.

I'm convinced and have bought the EVGA 780ti SC ACX. Now I have to worrry about if the PSU is enough.
Asus 780ti DirectCU II

I just recently built myself a computer with one of these and it is an amazing card!

The thing that turned me off of the evga is the lack of a backplate to support it. I read several reviews where this was a major con as it caused the card to sag.

That shouldn't be a problem in my case, which is turned with the mobo on the botton of a rack chassis. I read a couple of those concerns as well but don't think it'll be a problem for me.
600w is more than enough for a single gpu

2x 780ti will need 750+w
Corsair HX 650 is enough for GTX 780 Ti, even with overclocking the rig, for two you would want 850W+
Definately look at the GTX 780 Ti's or wait for the GTX 880 but that may be a while.

I have installed the GTX 780 Ti SC ACX successfully! The card is indeed very nice but it's about as noisy as the two Radeons I replaced and not just when I play games, but all the time. I'm a bit disappointed with that part considerfing the cost and it was one of the key reasons for the upgrade. All in all though I'm happy with the purchase and recommend this card for those on the lookout for a screamer of a GPU.
If you install EVGA precision x or MSI afterburner software you can modify your fan profile while monitoring the temp. Might help with the noise.

I've tried Precision X just now and I can't seem to affect the fan noise :( Does this card allow software control of the fan speed curve?
It should. I've got a 760 with ACX and can comtrol my speed. I've heard that cards quiet down over time. Gotta break in the bearings I guess. My power supply is so loud it drowns out everything else though.
Okay. Well I have to get used to it. It's the sound of $800 blowing out of my pocket :snaggletooth:
It can sometimes have sort of burning in period and settle down more later.
