960 2GB vs 4GB
I want to upgrade my GPU and I am going for the 960. But I am not quite sure if I should go with 2GB or 4GB vram. I am tempted to go with the 2GB version.

4GB doesn't offer much more as far as performance goes unless you're planning on playing with a higher resolution than FHD. Even then, you're better off with a GTX 970, GTX 980, or GTX TITAN for better higher resolution performance.

Go with the 2GB version, or spend a bit more for the GTX 970.

Thank you. I thought as much. Yep I only have 1920 x 1200. So not much more. If anyone else has an opinion I am happy to hear it.

I would go for the 4gb version. Just to future proof the gpu a little more for a small extra price.
I mean, games being released these days are using more and more vram that I think you need at least 3gb for 1920x1200 :)

No, the performance difference between the 2GB and 4GB version of the GTX 960 are nearly negligible, as I said above.

If you want to do any sort of "future proofing", don't bother with the GTX 960. It's a great card, but you're not going to be maxing AAA titles out.

yes for future proofing the 4Gb will be the route to go. Soon enough 2Gb will no longer be relevant in gaming.

No, you're totally right! You must know a lot about hardware and technology.[media.gamersnexus.net]

More and more titles are requiring more resources, that's just a fact, genius. I'd like to see what a 960 2gb or 4Gb would do on Unigine or 3Dmark benchmarks...compared to a R9 290X and GTX 970.

The 960 is a mid level under $200 budget card at best, for a reason.

Go for the GTX 960 4GB so you can play with higher AA settings. More eye candy is always a plus in my book. :controllerThumbsUp:

Save your money and go up to a 970 instead. Don't settle for middle of the road performance in games. There's about a $100 dollar difference, you'll thank me later. BTW I originally had the 960 4Gb in my sons PC..I moved him to one of my 980 FTWs and traded the other 980 FTW in the Nvidia step up program to a 980Ti...so ya I do know what the card can and can't do.

can you not read?

nobody is saying the 960 isn't a good budget card

but good luck "future proofing" with a gtx 960 because as Herman said the 960 2gb and 4gb have little to no differences between them, the 4gb of memory is kind of useless when you have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bandwidth anyway genius kek

but yes op you shouldn't bother with a 960 nvidia circumsized it, get a 970 instead

The point is, due to the actual crutch of the 960's 128 bit memory address it is in essence a substandard card whether it's a 2 or 4Gb GPU. I've seen the 4Gb 960 in action and I know its not all that ,learned from that mistake. Benchmarks and gaming was horrible. A 290x or 970 would smoke it's azz.

The person is better off going to a 290x or 970, than trying either of those two he asked about. All I'm saying is look at better cards than those two period...I CAN FKN READ JUST FINE.

Thank you very much for each comment. You guys have given me a lot to think about.

the 4g 960 will allow for higher settings, but it will not be able to hold 60+ fps at 1080p at those settings

if you want a 4g gpu, save up the extra $100 for a gtx970

Proof is in the pudding. My 960 2GB SSC was getting about 5-10 FPS in unpopulated areas in Unity on Very High settings. I put my 680 4GB FTW+ in and got 45-50 FPS in unpopulated areas on Very High. Please explain. If the fact I was using a newer chip didn't help, then why would the difference from 2GB to 4GB matter if you claim 2GB is better, or just as good?
